Shanghai R2: Federer def. Schwartzman 7-6(4), 6-4

Great returning game from Schwartzman in the first set, but the world #2 prevailed, as expected.

Next: king Dolgopolov.

Deruster for Federer. He wasn't too bad in the 2nd. First set he gifted a break and wasted about 10 mins extra than necessary.

Schwartzman was annoying as hell when he whined to the umpire like 4 times, and challenged that ball he knew was in to try and get 2 BP.

Brilliant to see Federer back on the ATP tour

He may not be contending for World #1 but hopefully has not given up on WTF

I hope it was just de-rusting because if that's the level for the tournament then I'm seriously concerned Shouldn't need too much match practice this close after the Laver Cup though.

Schwartzman really looks like a top 30 player even on HC now, he’s made quite some progress this year, even the serve is now a semi-weapon. Federer was really rusty on the BH side as expected, he should cruise to the semifinals anyhow.

Roger a little rusty but good to see him play agressive against a solid returner

Good but not great performance from Diego, could have gone his way too if he had hit an UE or two less in the TB. His 2nd serve is still a huge liability though, it was attacked by Fed on virtually every occasion. Diego did well holding onto his service games, only getting broken twice despite being under instant pressure every time he missed a 1st serve. The decisive break in the 2nd came after a terrible decision from the umpire, which really was a shameful end to this match

Re: Shanghai R2: Federer d. Schwartzman 7-6(4), 6-4

The calls in this match was poor to say the least.

Still hopefully Federer shook of the rust and will improve his level in the tournament. Decent win anyway, even if he wasn’t exactly at his most solid level.

Diego has been on pretty good form lately.

Federer now leads the head to head 4-0

Federer hit more FH and BH winners, Federer also won the longest rally which was 26 shots. Federer won 28 points from 5-9 shots while Diego won 21. Long rallies(9+) was just 1-2.
