Shanghai R2: Simon def. Goffin 7-6 (4) 6-3

He wanted a good rest because there are some more important tournaments coming up. Next week its the European open in Belgium, he wants to be rested there.

Nadal - Fognini - Goffin - Shapovalov - Dolgopolov - Haas - Coppejans

Have nice life after tennis Malisse, you were a legend!

Roger Federer was highly embarrassed at Roland Garros on Sunday afternoon. And he's only himself to blame for letting his tubby fiancee Mirka sit in the stands.
Poor old Fed - he offered as much resistance to Rafael Nadal during the French Open as Mirka does when the dessert trolley appears. - The Mirror

If Robbie Koenig was right this is only the second time this year, Simon was able to win back-to-back matches. Faces fellow frenchman Gasquet next, who's obviously fighting at 150% to face and bend over to Federer as usual.

Shanghai R2 Simon def Goffin 7-6(7-4) 6-3

David looked pretty tired out there. He fought but once he dropped the first set there was no coming back. It's unfortunate that his Asian run had to end here but he's had an amazing two weeks. Rest now and then Antwerp and hopefully he can do some damage in Paris and be ready for Davis cup and hopefully the WTF

Goffin is one of the few guys that can make you root for Simon.

I don't think it was a tank, I think he was just tired. He fought well in the first set but once he lost it I knew he wasn't coming back. Unfortunate but now he can go home and get some well deserved rest and be fresh for Antwerp and the European indoor season. Hiswtfspot isn't secured so hopefully he can have a strong finish to the year . I know hs got his home event in Antwerp and davis cup as the goals.

He neds to do well in paris now though. Hopefully he will

Finally a good match by Simon against a rather flat opponent.

Shame for the points, but at least PCB couldn't make any ground here on Goffin. Querrey and Anderson still in the race here though with the chance to close the gap.

"The point is that to root for Federer is to root for a Platonic ideal. It is like rooting for truth. (...) Detractors who said, “Don’t you get tired of him winning all the time?” were missing the point. Every victory was a validation. No one gets bored by the sun coming up in the morning."

How can one not like the Muffin

David was probably gassed after 2 title runs in 2 weeks, rest up and get ready to grab that WTF spot!

Gillou played really well . What is this sorcery?
I doubt that he will beat Gasquet, but still he looked much better.

Scoreline doesn't suggest a tank.

Anyway, good to see David save his energy for more possible outcomes. A home win at Antwerp will seal the WTF appearance and make this his best year by quite a margin.

Re: Shanghai R2: Simon def. Goffin 7-6 (4) 6-3

How is possible that Simon defeated Goffin who was looking in imperious form in Tokyo? Perhaps Goffin isn’t as good as I thought. Shame, I thought he could be a player I could keep an eye on but it seems that he’s a massive failure!

he was exhausted here, you could see it on his face. he's played a lot of tennis lately with not much rest in between

Not too surprising to see Goffin lose early here after back to back titles. As long as he has a decent performance somewhere indoors he should be safe for WTF qualification. Though he also has DC final to contend with...
