Rafa's Countdown to G.O.A.T - 16 Slams: 3 to tie, 4 to GOAT. Next stop is AO18

I hope I don't jinx the GOAT himself, but as a Rafa fan, I can't help but be excited about this. We are in an interesting moment in time, as when Serena in 2012 was just 13 slams in total and her next stop was 18, and then just about surpassed Graf at 23.
I do believe Rafa can get to 20, but I must not get ahead of myself, because I don't' want to disappoint not only myself but all the amazing Rafa fans here in MTF.
Regardless, I'm still happy and grateful that Rafa has gone to win 16 slams in his age, and more than satisfied at this point, anything beyond 16 is just icing on the cake, and we can't wait what happens in the next 5 years. It could be he retires next year, and I'll still be more than satisfied of his accomplishments, but should he surpass Fed in the next couple of years, then it'll be a celebration.

He just won US 2017.
Next stop is AO18, I'd say he has a 50% chance of getting #17 there, but realistically only 25% chance, since it's his worst slam.

There is no chance he wins AO 2018. Maybe he can win French Open.
2017 was a special year for both Nadal and Federer, but it won't happen again.

No one is the GOAT, and Nadal will only win three or four more slams if he goes on piling up titles at Roland Garros, or if he wins other slams as easily as this year's US Open, the latter being very unlikely.

And I'll say this: if Federer wins one more slam, Nadal will never catch him.

Statistics are not in favor of players +31 winning slams. Rafa and Fed winning slams will come to a full stop before we know it. Unfortunately.

I think the OP comparison with Serena Williams and women's tennis is unqualified for most tennis experts apart from Andy Murray.

dull will never be considered the goat by any serious tennis fan if he equals or surpasses Fed by a slam or two given his clay skew and playing style and court histrionics.
There's a far superior player than him whose name is Roger Federer incase you need reminding. dull will have to win 24-25 slams for him to be considered the GOAT to overcome the overwhelming amount of non-clay records that Fed has in his favour as his resume is almost embarrassingly imbalanced for a GOAT contender.(may it stay that way)

Weak era -

If for the next two years they slow AO down as they slowed USO'17 Nadal could by the end of his career catch him at 19 or 20, even with Noleandystan back to their 95 % game the next very season.

Nadal is still officially the friend of AO and KIA' top star, so, there is no reason to believe that his luck with AO & USO HC slam draws will disappear any time soon and at RG he is RN.

I think this is a good thread.

For years Fedtards and even non-Fedtards to an extent have downplayed RAFA's chances, insisting on the view that he's happy to be behind Federer. That is obviously a mistake. RAFA's competitive nature has never settled for second places. Rest assured he wants to surpass Federer (as both him and his uncle have publicly admitted recently) and will give his best possible effort in order to do so.

Is it guaranteed? No, but I have no doubt in my mind the GS race at the end of both players' careers will be extremely close, and even if RAFA ends up one or two slams behind Federer, will that be enough to say Federer is better? The debate will go on forever.

if nadal will win 20 by winning only RG's i don't think that it'll be enough(espicelly because of the fact that 70% from his slams will be on clay)
if he will win 1 more wimbi(highly unlikely but who knows....), 2 more AO and 1 more uso he will have 10 slams on clay, 7 on hard and 3 on grass, and if you ask me it's 3 titles in every slam will give him an edge aginst federrer here(because if it will be like this it's 10-1 on clay, 7-10 on hard and 3-8 on grass).if he will win the WTF it will give him a big bonus if you ask me.

It is a ridiculous joke that ATP is slowing down courts to help Nadal in the GS count.

The only reason is that slower courts make better television and more happy spectators (= more $).

Please watch the Wimbledon final 1994 P. Sampras - G. Ivanisevic again. Do you really think that court and ball speed is entertaining and brings out the best in tennis?

Mission 20 should be Rafa's Vision 2020.

In other words, Rafa should target to get to 20 slams before the end of 2020. Win 4 out of 12 slams in the next 3 years. Rafa will be 34+ years old by then. The earlier the better.

Needs to keep #1 ranking, win WTF and finish YE #1, so I am not looking past Beijing, tho I wish he'd skip it

AO 18 is too far away, not looking past the end of this year, after Laver Cup success

Nole will not let that happen.

If anyone other than Roger will be the GOAT, it will only be one man.

If his body holds up decently a couple of French Open wins suddenly seem almost likely. I still think Nadal is very vulnerable on hard courts and needs the right conditions to win a GS on that surface these days.

More, more, more please Rafa! We are greedy

Rafa! Rafa! Rafa!

Epic movies, like brokeback mountain, are seldom found in the industry or worthy for the mainstream viewer. As often as I have watched the clips of this movie, I always find something more to it. For one, the gay stuff doesn't enter the picture for me, only the dimension of the highest love I have ever witnessed in life or on film.
