Re: Laver Cup 2017: Day 2

Berdych must be the unluckiest player on the planet having this scenario at his home. Probably the best chance of TW to score today. NK is going to be a madman on a mission, while Berdych... he's still Berdych. He was pretty overwhelmed last night. Hopefully he'll handle the singles better.

WWW predictions:

Federer d. Querrey in 2

Nadal d. Sock in 2

Kyrgios d. Berdych in 3

Sock/Querrey d. Nadal/Federer in 3

It's a very smart move to have NK play Berdych as the percentage of a win is higher and if team world wins the doubles as well then it would be break even for Day 2 (as Nadal and Federer likely to win their single matches)

TBH they would have selected Dimitrov if the Laver cup wasn't played in Czech, so Berdych should feel lucky he got the chance to earn some serious money and play in front of his home crowd.

He is unlucky to be the one "sacrificed" to NK in front of his home crowd. Hopefully that'll annoy good deal of him and he'll be more motivated than ever.

I'll say again here that although Nadal won, he barely squeaked that out. Nothing to fist pump about. The silly TB format got him that win.

You seem to be really excited about this tournament, like it would be Grand Slam at least, every second thread about exho

What a sad day for the sport, even in a exho Fed playing a doubles match with the enemy is an absolute terrible thing. Shouldn't have accepted.

It's a fun and high quality exho, which doesn't really have an exho feel to it. But by all means feel free to get excited about Basilashvili and Gojowczyk playing in Metz instead.

Indeed, for me it is important for example that Gojowczyk made final out of nothing, never mind Damir's run. But for most of tennis fans it's enough to have Federer somewhere, or Nadal, or ideally both. 5 years left and they will be history as Sampras and Agassi. But ATP tour continues...

Maybe they'll be history, but even so far more memorable history than Metz 2017, and I may be proved wrong, but I suspect they'll remain far more landmark figures and contributors to the sport than Gojowhichway

@barbadosan Yeah, although it is going to be underrated if Dzumhur does win this title -- first for Bosnia & Herzegovina if it happens. It is like if Darian King wins a title eventually.

Yeh we'll rejoice - but we're also level-headed enough to know that won't exactly shake the foundations of the tennis universe.

It is important. I like Cinderella stories just as much as the next guy. I am not trying to be condescending in any way. Nor I think Fedal is the only thing that matters in tennis world. But whether you like it or not, it's Metz 2017 and its participants are those who are going to be history in a couple years. Federer and Nadal (and Samprass and Agassi) won't. They make history. And if Laver Cup stands the test of time, which is allegedly the goal, it's gonna make history too. Not to mention that the quality of matches is significantly higher than a typical 250. I am saying all that as someone who was really skeptical about this event until recently. I'd given it a try and changed my mind. It's good. Perhaps you should give it a try, too.
