Metz QF: [7] Paire def. [2] Goffin 7-6(3) 5-7 7-6(7)

Good match from what I saw, full of drama. I watched the last 4 games in the 2nd set and the entire 3rd set. Looks like Paire was going to win in 2, but started missing everything, lost like the last 10 or 11 points in the 2nd set or something similar.

In the 3rd set Goffin was way more stable, but pretty much gifted a break advantage with silly errors serving at 4-3, then failed to break from 0-30 at 4-4. Match became even and Paire was clutcher in the TB.

Catched the end of the TB, NID BH winner on MP from Paire to end it.

If I am not mistaken, Goffin had a break lead in the 1st set as well. I wasn't paying too much attention. Anyway, Paire's been playing good tennis all week (not without clownery, of course, but it was mild enough to not interfere with the result). Should cruise to the title rather comfortably now. But since it's Paire, he probably won't.

Goffin was mediocre. He played a really good game to break at 5-5 in the second. Third set was maybe a bit better than the first two for both players, some good drama. Paire was good but a bit up and down as is customary. Match seemed to be on Paire's raquet most of the time. Goffin was too passive, hopefully just had a mediocre day and not a lingering injury.

It's probably Pear vs Misha in the final

I'm still wondering if David's health is completely back yet?

Good to see the more talented player prevail in what was a very entertaining match. Goffin had a break lead in the 3rd but Paire got inspired by the home crowd and showed that when he actually tries, he has Top 10 talent.

Thought he was done when he missed a 2handed overhead backhand smash in the deciding TB, but held it together and won with a big BH winner.

Excellent result for tennis. I thought that Goffin might finally add a third ATP title to his resume but fortunately Paire was here to save the tournament.

I haven't had the time to watch at all.
TBH, I haven't watched Goff play since that RG fail.

How different was his performance in Metz compared to the recent DC performance (in terms of movement and shotmaking)? Not taking anything away from Paire's performance, was David's loss here attributed to his usual mental breakdowns or was he physically worse off than DC?

I haven't watched much, just a couple games and even that out of the corner of my eye. But to me he looked alright. Just inconsistent. Lots of simple mistakes he normally shouldn't be making. But again, I wasn't watching closely. So don't quote me.
