Does Rafa prefer clay himself or does he prefer that his opponent be on clay?

And similarly for Federer (for grass) and the Djoker (slow hard). What I mean is where do these players derive the larger part of their advantage from. For instance, in case of Nadal preferring clay himself would mean the serve receiving and coverage advantages he gets on his side as against the ridiculously high topspin forehand that his opponents have to struggle though on theird side of the clay.

I personally think for Rafa the opponent being on clay is more important, for Roger the opponent on grass (ridiculous slices and not getting time) whereas the opposite for Djokovic (suited movement, anticipation and just the right amount of ball bounce for himself).

For Rafa it's equally important he and his opponent are on clay. He moves a lot better on clay, can slide, can get to more balls, can return easier. But his opponent being on clay is also important, so he cand push him back with his spin.

For Fraud it's more important his opponent is on grass, defence is almost impossible, serve becomes more potent, same with slice.

Maybe you should check the Fedal clay-grass exhibition match for some evidence

Probably his opponent. His defense on clay is unreal. It's almost impossible to hit through him.

This is my translation from 4:59 till 5:51.

Interviewer: "Spanish players usually struggle when playing in Wimbledon, both professionals and juniors. Nevertheless you made the Junior's Wimbledon SF this year. Are spanish young players changing the dynamics of preferring only clay courts ?"

Rafa: "I actually think so, since a really young age we have been playing many European tournaments and there are many fast hard Court tournaments, actually for me i prefer to play in Hard Courts or Grass rather than on Clay. Although i like to play on Clay a little too"

Interviewer: "Is there any special player you would like emulate ? Or that you have taken as an idol ?"

Rafa: "Yes! i believe Carlos Moya is a great player, i want to be like him"

Interviewer: "And the tournament you would like to win the most ?"

Rafa: "Wimbledon, but it's going to be really difficult and i have a lot of work to do."

Rafa - VEB - Fed - Sascha - Wawrinka - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Tsonga.
