Arrow The impact of Djokovic in Naderer's race to 20 slams

The slam totals of Nadal and Federer will largely depend on who deals with Djokovic most effectively.

I think Nadal will probably beat Djokovic at Roland Garros and the US Open.

Whereas I'm not sure where Federer would beat Djokovic.
It appears that Djokovic's ability to extend rallies really hurts Federer on all surfaces.

Djokovic vs. Nadal
2015 Roland Garros: Djokovic 75 63 61
2014 Roland Garros: Nadal 36 75 62 64
2013 US Open: Nadal 62 36 64 61
2013 Roland Garros: Nadal 64 36 61 67 97
2012 Roland Garros: Nadal 64 63 26 75

Djokovic vs. Federer
2016 Australian Open: Djokovic 61 62 36 63
2015 US Open: Djokovic 64 57 64 64
2015 Wimbledon: Djokovic 76 67 64 63
2014 Wimbledon: Djokovic 67 64 76 57 64
2012 Wimbledon: Federer 63 36 64 63

Djokovic has won 11 out his last 13 matches with Nadal including the straight set victory at RG 2015
If Djokovic is back,Nadals slam days are long gone

I have no doubt Djokovic will beat Nadal in plenty of best-of-3-setters....because even when Nadal is beating Djokovic at the US Open, Djokovic still wins the best-of-3:
Nadal beat Djokovic at 2013 US Open 62 36 64 61.
Djokovic beat Nadal at 2013 China 63 64.
Djokovic beat Nadal at 2013 World Tour Finals 63 64.
Djokovic beat Nadal at 2014 Miami 63 63.

What does that have to do with the discussion?
Nadal fans are really clueless

You brought up 2015rg as a guide for Djokovic's return, and I'm showing how poorly Nadal was playing back then.....even his biggest pigeon was thrashing him.

Djokovic - Federer at Majors: 9-6
Djokovic - Nadal at Majors: 4-9

Correct me, if something.

He isn't playing all that great now either.
Far from his peak.US Open win has given an illusion but the draw played a big part in it

Nadal's peak was 2008rg, but Nadal never needed his peak to beat Djokovic.

Nadal's 2017rg/2017uso form was not his peak, but it was far higher than 2015, that is for sure.

A couple of days ago Nadal said he was also ready to win 2016 Roland Garros, before the wrist injury ended him.

Let's see what Djokovic does in 2018.
I'm sure he'll best Nadal next year

Hopefully they'll meet at the AO for another 6 or 7 hour epic.

Re: The impact of Djokovic in Naderer's race to 20 slams

Nadal will be favorite against Djokovic in Roland Garros, Djokovic will be favorite in the other three. This is if both are playing somewhat good tennis. Djokovic beat him in RG 2015 and Nadal beat him in USO 2013, but both would be anomalies. Nadal does have a better shot at the USO than Djokovic at RG though. I actually think he has a better shot at the USO than the AO.

Re: The impact of Djokovic in Naderer's race to 20 slams

It really depends on two things:

- How good will Djokovic be after his comeback? 2017 level will not be enough to beat either Federer or Nadal at any slam while 2015 version will be more than enough to beat both Federer and Nadal at all slams assuming they keep their 2017 level. I think his form will be somewhere in between his 2015 and 2017 levels which will make things interesting.

- The draw. Basically it comes down to in which half Djokovic lands in a major, the other player will have an automatic advantage - imagine another 5-hour SF battle Djokovic - Nadal for the winner only to meet a fresh Federer in the final.

Federer - Thiem - Wawrinka - Del Potro - Dimitrov - Shapovalov

Re: The impact of Djokovic in Naderer's race to 20 slams

Let's see how strong Djokovic will be next year (it depends on his recovery and mental state). No guarantees here. There's too much love on his social media for my liking (Pepe is strong with the force). He can have a huge comeback with 2+ slams in 2018 or maybe he won't be a factor in GS decisive rounds.

As for race to 20 it may not happen at all. This year was a fluke (when it comes to Fedal dominance) and don't expect they'll rack slams so easily in years to come. Nadal's career is consisted of cycles (now he's during a positive cycle) and injury may happen next year. Federer had a great streak of form this year but father time will defeat him rather sooner than later.
