Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

Madrid, Rome Set To Become ?Mini-Grand Slams? In New ATP Schedule - UBITENNIS

Quote:
The president of the Italian Tennis Federation has confirmed that two Masters 1000 events in Madrid and Rome will be expanded when the ATP releases their new calendar later this year.

Angelo Binaghi confirmed during an interview with SuperTennis that he has seen the ATP’s proposed plans for their new calendar, which will start from 2019 onwards. Under their proposal, the two European Masters 1000 tournaments will have the size of their main draw expanded to 96 players and will be played over a 10-day period.

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

Grass seriously needs a masters event. The treatment clay tournaments get is unreasonable.

I don't like this at all. I guess this means the clay swing will be expanded by 2 weeks then.

Gonna be interesting to see what the ATP do to the schedule in 2019. It's fine the way it is to be honest.

This is great. But it'd be even better if they bring back 3/5 finals in these masters that last more than a week.

They should just get rid of Madrid entirely, actually. It's an awful tournament.
It's actually one of the best tournaments but a tard like you will never understand jack. You're in fact indirectly suggesting that a country like Spain should only have one ATP event and that it be an ATP 500. Absolutely ludicrous.

Clay is not a problem for grasscourt tennis. Hardcourt is. They need to reduce the amount of hardcourt events.

Terrible. Just nothing good comes out for tennis these days. Once Fed leaves, this sport will be totally dead.

Nope. It's actually the very worst or the second worst masters tourney, but a tard like you will never understand that

Clay is a problem, it's an obsolete surface. They need to reduce the amount of clay events.

Yeah, because the thing tennis needs is a more prominent clay season

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

Harcourt events make up around 60% of the tour total events, and yet it's clay that is a problem. You're all a fucking joke.

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

There needs to be more grass court tennis, perhaps shave off some clay and some hard courts and create more grass court events and 1-2 masters on grass would be great!!

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

the tour needs a grass masters, another grass 500 and 2-3 less HC tournaments

clay was never the problem, the fact that almost every indoor event is HC causes the problem

Do we even know how to discuss these things without filtering everything through the lens of our preferred players and their preferred surfaces? This thread is fucking pathetic.

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

Was there really a need to have them be played over a 10-day period? I think this will make more top players skip Madrid if it plays too close to the French Open.

Re: Madrid and Rome to become mini slams

Outstanding news for the game and all of its unbiased fans

Having said that, I don't think it's good to have these type of tournaments b2b like in IW and Miami. Actually I would've preferred if they shrink one of these 2 and than expand either Madrid or Rome.
