Federer chances of reaching YE#1

Chances are not the best now, he and Nadal both can only add points until London, he should win a couple of masters, the WTF and Nadal should be in bad form (pretty much like he was after RG except for the vultured USO)

any thoughts? is this still possible or is Fed already tired?

Federer - Thiem - Zverev - Del Potro - Kyrgios

Slim chance, but still possible. I don't know if Fed is tired, but he sure looked off during the summer HC tourneys. I know the back tweak didn't help...we shall see. I am still excited for the remainder of the season.

Tired? The guy is 36, but he's only played 43 matches (39-4) this year, no time to be tired until after the WTF!!

Re: Federer chances of reaching YE#1

What's his schedule? Shanghai Basel WTF?? Is he fitting another tournament in between? Paris? I don't think he should overplay. He should be able to beat Nadal at any of the remaining tournament he enters so he has a chance, albeit a pretty slim one.

I wish he skips Laver Cup that does nothing for his resume.

Luckily Laver Cup is only BO3 Format with a super TB in the 3rd. Also, I think it states that a player will have a max of 2 singles matches. So 2 singles + doubles with rafa shouldn't be too strenuous..

I think if he did really well in Shanghai and Basel he should consider skipping Paris and focus on WTF prep. Don't go chasing the #1, we know what happened in Montreal..

Team8, owned by Fed and Tony Godsick, created this tournament. It's the last thing he will skip.

Roger has Laver Cup and then he said he wants to get to Shanghai a week early to win it. Then I imagine yes Basel, Paris, WTF and we see

Slim chance. I'd rather focus on WTF only and good preparation for 2018.

Federer - Thiem - Wawrinka - Del Potro - Dimitrov - Shapovalov

Will he play Brisbane or Hopman Cup, or neither?

Ikr! How dares he to do something just for fun, instead of beefing up his resume 24/7!
