Nadal's top priority

Many matches to be played still but I would have to believe in his mind winning the WTF feels like a real possibility and it's one huge tournament he has never won. Will he sand bag until Paris and the WTF? What are your thoughts?

Re: Nadal's top priority

He has no chance unless all the Top players retire and he plays the likes of Rublev, Taro and Mayer.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Next year's AO. I'm sure he feels like he should have one more there and will be determined to get it. Double Career Slam would also be a unique achievement.

Securing YE#1 and winning WTF should be his goals.

Isn't that greedy? It's been 24H since Nadal won a major and his fans are already looking for more.

Re: Nadal's top priority

This is the one missing form his collection to be sure.
As I recall, he made the finals in a year when he wasn't playing nearly as well as he is now, 2015, against what was probably a stronger field (Murray, Waw, was Fed there? not sure) and lost to Djok. This what in a period when he always lost to Djok.
So.................
I think he has great chances this year. Not at all sure Fed is going to strong for remainder of season, he seemed really played out USO--my suspicion about Fed is that at th is points he needs long rests, time -off, to recover, cannot play well continuously.

Nadal, sand bag? If I understand your usage here, Absolutely not! Not in his repertoire.

But WTF is the one I want for him. It would complete his trophy case, and give him whatever points he might need at that point to guarantee YE #1.

The most important tourn remaining by far this year.

Re: Nadal's top priority

It wouldn't surprise me if WTF, YE#1 and AO were all to be achieved... depends on how the competition performs really.

Once you've experienced Roger Federer, nothing is ever the same again...

Re: Nadal's top priority

Rafa's priorities for the rest of 2017 should be: keep #1 the rest of the year and win the WTF, I'm not a Rafa fan, but I have to imagine these are his top goals for the rest of 2017!!

Re: Nadal's top priority

I hope he doesn't get hurt trying to keep #1. I think WTF is also hard for him because he likes the Bo5 format and likes the 7 matches in grand slams to work into form

Re: Nadal's top priority

Should he skip indian wells and miami next year as well? So he can rest for clay. Doesn't have much points to defend there either...

Re: Nadal's top priority

I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa doesn't win another event the rest of 2017, don't forget he's only won 3 events post USO in his career: 2005 Beijing, 2005 Madrid, and 2010 Tokyo!!

Re: Nadal's top priority

Federer looks focused and as long as he's healthy Nadal has no chance at the WTF. Now we need Andy to come back.

Re: Nadal's top priority

This will be RAFA's best chance to win the WTF.

Unlike most previous years by this time of the season, he's in great physical shape. Plus, several top players won't play the WTF.

Realistically speaking, the only guy with chances to beat RAFA at the WTF are Federer, Zverev and maybe Wawrinka (depending on how well he's feeling). Then again, RAFA is fully capable of beating those three too.

Re: Nadal's top priority

Rogie and A. Zverev I get, but Wawrinka's done for the rest of 2017, how did he factor into all of this?
