Lets hope he can ''boom boom'' German tennis to a new high.

Seems like the German Federation is trying to help him out through a difficult period.

I am really curious why people (especially in Germany it seems to me) treat him like a laughing stock, a clown. I know that he had several "funny" episodes in his CV (cleaning cupboards story, some reality TV-show, the failure to manage his money, hence the bancruptcy) - I am aware of that. However he is still a great champion and one of the all time greats. He makes for more than a semi-decent commentator of tennis (in my personal opinion) and actually his tennis-analysis is deeper than that of the likes of McEnroe. He coached Novak through (arguably) his most successful period and even if he cannot take all (or even most) of the credit for it, surely he collected a lot of very valuable coaching experience. Also, he strikes me as a very decent and kind person. So surely, he deserves some respect. No?

I'm not preaching here. Genuinely curious where this dismissiveness (if not contempt) for him comes from.

That sounds very honorable, but one must check the details.

The president of the german football federation DFB also worked "ehrenamtlich" (for the honor only), he did not receive a salary but nevertheless he was paid 6000€/month "Aufwandsentschädigung" ("compensation for his efforts"), in addition to the reimbursements of his real costs for travelling, etc.
