Cincinnati QF: Dimitrov def. Sugita 6-2 6-1

Easily one of the most focused performances I have seen from Grigor. He only dropped 5 points on serve and controlled almost all the rallies with his heavier groundstrokes and sliced backhand. For the first time in months, Grigor didn't hit any DFs which was good to see and he also wasn't hitting stupid errors by going for too much when he didn't need to.

Sugita may have played badly but he couldn't get a read on Grigor's serve and really struggled with all the different spins that Grigor was giving him.

Good performance by Baby Fed, never let the Sugita into the match.
At least he is not losing to mugs like earlier in the year.

Very steady from Greegor, almost no clowning around. Sugita was markedly poor throughout, of course. So that was a lucky break for Dimidroll, and now he must be fully focused for the upcoming Botsner attack.

I wonder why Dimitrov doesn't play always like this against lower competition. If he does that more often, he will cut the losses to the Haases, Bustas and Pellas of the world to pretty much zero.

Sugita never felt the ball though, he can surely do better than this.

Do you wonder what I've been doing the last 3 months?

Scoreline says it all - Dimitrov was good, Sugita was bad.

Grigor focused, probably smells the oportunity of first career masters final.

Yeah this was one of the better performances from Grigor, very happy with this level. Serve always seems to be working a lot better in Cincy than in any other tournament for him. Sugita was really very bad tho

Has to really win his SF, there is really no better chance to make master final than this. Please don't fuck up

I'm happy with Grigor's win

I have a, shall we say, morbid personality.

Easy peasy! Isner next.

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Up to #10 after this win, and IMO really should win against Ferrer Isner to FINALLY get to his first Masters Final.

EDIT: It is actually Isner he's playing against, who I guess is a tough opponent here in the US, but he should if he needs to step to the next level, just like how A. Zverev won the Isner matchup in Rome.

He isn't playing Ferrer thankfully.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
