But any Shapovalov cannot be found. Wow, having to play qualifiers after that excellent Montreal run must really suck.

Re: US Open WCs announced.

What a disgrace! 328th ranked Geoffrey Blancaneau, 693rd ranked Thai-Son Kwiatkowski received a WC over the hottest youngster on tour, Montreal semifinalist Denis Shapovalov.

(The women WCs are even worse. Amandine Hesse, really?)

Terrible choices mostly.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.

Sharapova the worst choice.

Kwiatkowski is the NCAA Champion, se he automatically gets a wild card.

It's USTA -- what did you expect? No logic could be found there.
They argued for years that humankind hadn't developed the technology that would allow them build a roof over a tennis court.

Blacaneaux is the reciprocal WC for the French Federation, it was their choice. As much as I wanted Shapovalov to have a WC, I knew it wouldn't happen. USTA rarely selects non-US tennis players for their US Open WCs.

Edit:

Kwiatkowski's WC is due to being NCAA champion,
Kypson won the WC tournament in Kalamzoo,
Paul won the USTA WC Challenge, although there is a case to be made that he likely would have gotten one anyways.

Re: US Open WCs announced.

Further: De Minaur is the Aussie reciprocal WC which left 3 for USTA to pick, Fritz and Frantangelo are ok choices. Eubanks did just qualify for Cincinnati so his is also justifiable.

Surely USTA is not legally bound to award WCs to college srcubs and other horrible horrible players?

Re: US Open WCs announced.

So De Minaur getting his third WC this year, but any Menace cannot be found...

Perhaps in the long run it's not too bad for Denis to get a few more matches under his belt instead of jumping into the fire immediately and put himself under pressure to justify the WC and excessive as of now expectations. At the same time momentum is so important and he might lose it in qualies slugfest.

Other than Juan Martin Del Potro's WC last year you have to go back to 2002 to find a non-US, non-reciprocal WC. Indian Prakash Amritraj. (I'm assuming he got one by being Vijay's son)

No Denis of course Maybe they got Sharapova mixed up with Shapovalov. I can't see any other reason that disgraced screamer should get a WC
