Longest time span between first and last being ATP world #1 - New record Nadal

Nadal first became world No. 1 on August 18, 2008, and he will take it back on August 21, 2017. That is over 9 years range, and he could extend it into 2018.

Great achievement.

Top 10:

Nadal 9 years, 0 months
Connors 8 yr 11 mo
Federer 8 yr 9 mo
Agassi 8 yr 5 mo
Sampras 7 yr 7 mo
Lendl 7 yr 6 mo
McEnroe 5 yr 6 mo
Djokovic 5 yr 4 mo
Borg 3 yr 11 mo
Edberg 2 yr 1 mo

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.

It's amazing that the player who was "supposed" to be burn out by Age 25 now holds this record. In your face tennis experts!

Despite all his injuries, setbacks & issues, he hasn't been out of top 10 since April 2005.

Rafa - VEB - Fed - Sascha - Wawrinka - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Tsonga.

Great job! Though Federer might soon best it by some margin it's still interesting indeed that Nadal is holding out as long as he is.

He can break Connors' record for consecutive weeks in the top 10 by June 2020 already.

After his long journey through the desert back in 2015 I have to admit I never thought he'd win a GS again, let alone back to No. 1. Glad I was wrong.

Congrats Rafa.

Congrats to Rafa. Great record. I hope Rog will eclipse it some time this year.

Congrats to Nadal for the Number 1 spot. He earned it by an outstanding clay season and other solid performances.

That being said, i think the best player so far 2017 is clearly Roger Federer. I hope this will show at the end of the year in the ranking, although with his back problems, i'm a bit doubtful now.

No, McEnroe had 14, Sampras 11. It's a meaningless statistic of course. McEnroe lost #1 often for short periods to Borg, Connors, Lendl. That doesn't make him greater than if he had held on to it the whole time.

edit: as murray3366 said above.

Somebody who hasn't won a hard court tournament since Jan 2014 becomes World No 1 in Aug 2017? Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.

Great Rafito!
You will hold it until after US Open only but still it's a great achievement to get back there
Cincinnati isn't suiting him that well, then I don't expect him to take a great advance on Fed.

Allez Simon, you rock
