Montreal F: A. Zverev def. Federer 6-3 6-4

This final summed up the tournament really nice: boring with mediocre quality. If not Shapovalov's run - I think we would forget about this tournament on Monday.

Fed was flat and seemed to be bothered by some kind of injury in the 2nd set, Zverev was decent and regular.

Very low effort match from Roger. The last service game of Zverev was a joke.

Alex, my boy, wonderful stuff

Great to see a player that doesn't turn into a spineless coward when he sees Federer across the net. That's all it takes really.

Congrats to Zverev fans, very impressive to win 2 Masters in a row at his age, on different surfaces no less. Fifth player to win 2+ Masters this decade.
This result was expected based on their previous matches this week of course, but you still have to execute it against a big name, and Zverev did that very well. Credit to him, he is clutch and mentally strong. I wonder if he could grab the #1 next year, or at least he could be the one who first gets it after the Big Four.

Federer did very well by winning 600 points here giving him at least a shot at #1 if Nadal falters, and now he has to work on getting his game back on track.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.
A weak era is an era that becomes stronger when you remove the strongest players.

Congrats.

The most bizzare thing were the TennisTV commentators basically ignoring Federer's injury, hobbled movement and 150 km/h serving in the 2nd.

Fed probably injured, still Zverev was playing pretty well and seems to be the real deal. Hope he can impress at the USO as well.

Congrats to Zverev.

He played really well, especially in the first set.

After 3-3 in the second set, the match was over, as everyone could see.

Federer is paying the prize for playing Montreal. It was a really bad decision.

Federer & Wawrinka -> unstoppable Swiss power

Credit to Zverev, he's probably the first truly promising 20 and over player currently with 2 M1000's and with potential to qualify for the YE finals.

As for Federer, he was clearly injured and was stupid to play this tournament in the first place.

Federer had an average groundstroke speed of 101 kph
I have never seen a lower one since this new scoreboard was established.

You know what that means, ThestartisFar? Fed to win USO like 2007.

Re: Montreal F: A. Zverev def. Federer 6-3 6-4

Federer was definitely physically off in that second set, but I think Zverev's power game throughout the match may have gotten in his head a little bit too.

Excellent start to the U.S. summer hard court season for Sascha. It's a good sign that he didn't play as well in Montreal as he did in DC but still was able to win the tournament.
