Montreal R2: A. Zverev def. Gasquet 6-3 4-6 7-6(3)

What a match that was. Zverev was serving for the match at 5-4 and had a triple match point, Gasquet came back, then Zverev saved 4 match points at 5-6, one of them in a 49 shot rally.

save 4 match points you say? Add it to the list. We have to be getting close to a record, 4 times now

edit: According to flashscore it was only 3. Damn it, record ruined

After 10 years of closely following tennis, I don't think I've seen many things quite like this 49-shot rally to save a match point. Watched it with my mouth half-opened for the last 20 shots.

What went from a rather average match turned into an insane match during the last 15 minutes. That MP saved from Zverev at 30-40, 5-6

A lot of intensity from both players near the end, with both managing to save 3 match points (Gasquet at 4-5* and Zverev at 6-5*)

Re: Montreal R2: Zverev - Gasquet 6-3 4-6 7-6

Only started watching at the beginning of the 3rd. Probably the best set of tennis I've seen all year, very high level from both players with some great rallies. Zverev earned himself 3 MPs on his serve at 5-4, which was saved by some excellent shot making from Gasquet. Gasquet then had 2 MPs at 5-6, the first he hit an UE and the 2nd was brilliantly saved by Zverev in what was the craziest point I've seen this year given the importance.

Unfortunately the TB was one-sided. Also Zverev had an injury timeout in the 3rd, he seemed ok in the end, so hope it was nothing to worry about.

Zverev went for his shots more in the last few games and tiebreak.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.

Re: Montreal R2: Zverev - Gasquet 6-3 4-6 7-6

First set very poor from Gasquet, serve and ROS bad, he breaked himself, could have gone worse if Zverev wasn´t struggling with low balls

Second serve and onwards Zverev started to serve poor as well, had some BP and MP opportunities and couldn´t capitalize, he also asked MTO to get ankle massage, I think

it wasn´t serious as he moved good afterwards

3d set, both players raised their levels, specially Gasquet got confident after rebreaking in the last games, some very quality rallies, on Gasquet´s MP, Zverev saved

the MP amazing.

Overall, I think Zverev still needs to catch up if he wants to beat in form Kyrgios, but he also struggled in the R1 and R2 in Washington and played great his last matches there

Federer - Thiem - Zverev - Del Potro - Kyrgios

Good match. This tournament must be making some gamblers very rich and others seriously poor.

re: Montreal R2: A. Zverev def. Gasquet 6-3 4-6 7-6(3)

Zverev really should have closed it out in 2 when Gasquet was subpar, he made things complicated by wasting BPs and getting broken for the set, also got a slight injury in the third and had his foot wrapped up......Even so, losing 5-4 40-0 on serve was unacceptable(but expected this week ) Perfect way to redeem himself was the MP saving, Gasquet didn't go for anything but did nothing wrong too, the 49 shot rally was one of the points of the year, certainly the most extraordinary point I've seen Zverev win. Then he managed to not get tired and upped his level in the final TB, very impressive but would have been a different story had Gasquet converted an MP.

Nice of Zverev to dodge the choker list this week, Kyrgios will be a very stern task after this fight, exciting match to look forward to, strange it didn't get CC while Monfils-RBA did.

Enjoy every moment of tennis. Enjoy the rise of the young, the brilliance of the peak, and the passion of the old. Enjoy dominance, enjoy diversity.

Fight. Drama. Shots. Epic matches, fun stats, tennis!
