That's a 500 field, not Hamburg, Rio and so on.
I have high hopes for Nishikori here, but, fuck me, those 16 seeds are all, except Harrison, top notch players and it won't be easy for anyone to win this.
American players also stand a decent chance here, home crowd advantage and everything still counts.
Really interesting tournament, a nice intro to Montreal/Cincy, looking forward to it.
This tournament can get really exciting. Very good field and a lot on the
line for various players.
With Djokovic out Zverev and Nishikori have 7 and 8 seed for Montreal.
But both those seeds are not certain for Cincinnati:
Raonic and Dimitrov are really close and the tournament can result in a
real nailbiter for these 2 spots.
Whoever reaches the final is quaranteed that 7 or 8 spot. The real drama
starts when players get kicked out early. Since Raonic and Nishikori currently
have a 0 point result in their rankings they could make those spots with a
2R and both Zverev and Dimitrov not making the SF. There are a lot more of
those constallations possible.
If fact any order from 7-10 spot is possible.
The #8 seed is so valueable, because it guarantees a first week bye in Cincy
and not running into the top seeds before QF.
And those 4 also battle for that #7 and 8 seeds for the US Open.
Currently Nishikori and Zverev hold those with a 280 point advantage
over Raonic and 330 points over Tsonga and Dimitrov.
What a solid field, this is going to be awesome. I'm torn between Alex and Milos. I'd consider Kei but I have no idea about how well he's feeling right now.
Voting Milos though.
You pay for a full year? Monthly payments are the way to go. Of course it depends on what you want to watch.
Interesting draw, bottom half looks stronger on paper but considering it's america, Sock and Isner are also pretty good. Battle of former champions Nishikori-del Potro could be interesting despite their recent struggles, while Zverev-Kyrgios rivalry could continue. Dimitrov draws Johnson as always,Thiem will probably face big trouble against Anderson. Raonic is the favorite to come out of the top half, he may be seeking revenge against Harrison too.
That potential R16 Sascha Zverev/Nick Kyrgios match looks really juicy. Zverev has done well in DC so far in his career, making the quarterfinals as an 18 year old in 2015 and reaching the semifinals in 2016.
BTW, I live 3 miles/5 km from the tournament site and will be there almost every day during the tournament, including all day on Thursday (R16 matches) and Friday (quarterfinals). :grin2:
Weird draw. Very strong seeds, but horrible field.
