Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

Having watched several of their matches, I think it's definitely possible that Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray will all reach the SF. IIRC, the last Slam this happened at was the 2012 Australian Open and I honestly would never have thought it could happen again at the start of this year. For me, Murray is most certain to make the SF. His draw has opened up a lot (Kyrgios, Pouille and Wawrinka are all out) and I don't think anyone from his quarter except maybe Tsonga can challenge him. Federer should also reach the SF, though playing M.Zverev in R3, Dimitrov in R4 and Raonic/A.Zverev in the QF is far from easy. However, this is his favorite surface and if he reaches his level of the Halle final, he should beat all of these players. Nadal could make it for the first time since 2011, but he wasn't very convincing today, especially in the 3rd set. Khachanov might be the next big hitter to knock him out and Cilic has a decent shot if he can keep up this level. Djokovic is imo the most vulnerable of the Big 4. He could play Del Potro in R3, who could cause him a lot of trouble if he loses his focus like at RG. It will be a bit easier after that, Sugita/Monfils in R4 and Thiem/Berdych in the QF (though Thiem might just knock him out again ) If I were to make a prediction I'd say Djokovic wouldn't make it, but Roger, Rafa and Andy would.

I think Khachanov will be a tough SF for Murphy. Federer vs Delpotro SF will be interesting too.

Only Federer will be in the SF.

Re: Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

It's definitely the most likely combination, but I'd give it about 20% chance, especially Nadal and Djokovic are quite vulnerable to a red-hot player on grass. It's notable that Wimbledon is the only slam the big 4 have never taken up the 4 SF berths, IIRC it only happened in 2011 RG, 2011 USO and 2012 AO. If Tsonga hadn't managed that epic comeback against Federer in 2011 Wimbledon, we'd have witnessed an unprecedented year of the same SF lineup in all 4 slams.

At the same time, Wimbledon is also the only slam the big 4 haven't dropped in their era, so I guess it's easier to upset one here but more difficult to upset two.

Enjoy every moment of tennis. Enjoy the rise of the young, the brilliance of the peak, and the passion of the old. Enjoy dominance, enjoy diversity.

Fight. Drama. Shots. Epic matches, fun stats, tennis!

Re: Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

There is no big 4. So Murray is out of the conversation and competition. He will not make the SF and will lose his undeserved #1 finally.
Neither will Nadal, there is no question about it. He was done making SFs here in 2011.

Hopefully Federer will lose before the SF, but considering the joke of the draw he received it will be difficult for him to lose.

Novak will make the SF if Jelena and Pepe stop with their shenanigans.

So hopefully Novak will be the only one of big 3 plus Murray.

The Rumors Of My Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated.

Shall we begin?

That's really something. The last Wimbledon that the big 4 dropped was in 2002, when Federer was ranked world number 7 and lost to Mario Ancic in the first round. Sampras was still active.

Re: Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

Personally, I hope not. Not only maybe because I'm the supporter of renegade Stan , but also there will be that endless fawning of their dominance (which since the start of Wimbledon, is back after they got the Top 4 seeds), even though frankly they are supposed to be out of their prime now, and that someone should at least capitalize on Djokovic's and Murray's drops of form. Frankly they should also capitalize on Nadal's vulnerability on grass and Federer's -- while currently great form -- inconsistency at times and age (I still don't buy he's "moving as well as he's been"). If all 4 reached the end, it really just shows how the rest of the field may have given hope of getting the big titles for the next 3 years or so maybe. I guess I'm exaggerating, but don't be surprised if the next 2 years there is still that Top 5 lockdown on Slams.

Re: Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

there is "big 4" since they are the players who is able to reach sf/f consistenly and meet each other plus they domineted the other players exept big 4(there are exepctions).
murray was almost in every SF in W since 2009(7/8, the only time he wasn't was 2014) so i don't think that we should count him out. he also has pretty nice drew: trollnini on grass, Janowicz and tsonga(2-14 aginst murray, and 1-13 since AO 2008). i don't see any of them winning even 50% murray in wimbi.

It does seem like they will all reach the semis. It does not seem like any of the new guards will be able to break through the Big 4 (or 5) while the latter are still active.

There's a decent chance that it will happen and I hope so. Two quality semifinals and a final between Big 4 can be a great ending of the tournament. In this case I hope for Djokovic-Nadal GS final (we haven't seen it for 3 years).

if they do all make it to the last four then we will have a situation where all the semi finalists have won the tournament before. I bet that hardly ever happens. Any ideas when that has happened before ?

Re: Will the Big 4 all reach the SF this Wimbledon?

Bookmakers odds suggested they have the following odds of making it (rough estimates)

Murray 66%
Nadal 55%
Federer 63%
Djokovic 58%

Gives you about a 13% chance of them all making it.
