As it seems to be time for polls now on GM I thought about starting one myself ;) I would like to know when you started to watch tennis:

In the 70ies?
In the 80ies?
In the 90ies?
Since 2000 and later?

I became interested in tennis in the early 80ies :)

most will answer "since 2000 and later". you can see that from the experience of most people.
Too true, you see the lack of experience and knowledge everywhere. Isn't it just pathetic when people so full of themselves make stupid predictions with absolute self-confidence which turn out to be completely wrong. Shows they have no clue and should up every once in while. So sad.

I watched the 1994 Wimbledon Ladies final but then didn't watch tennis again until Cincy 2001

As soon as I was old enough to understand it, which would be late 90's. I didn't really start watching it seriously, as in besides the GS's, until about 3 years ago though.

In the early 80s (McEnroe & Navratilova days), but I would be lying if I said I was extremely interested back then. ;) My passion for the sport was a product of the 90s.

I started watching in the 70s, but that's a little bit misleading since I haven't watched constantly all this time. I watched with my mom when I was little because she loved Bjorn Borg. And then I stopped watching when she did I guess, only start again a few years later when I happened across Andre Agassi on tv. :D And then I came back to it this year after having been away for a few years. I don't see myself fading away from it again as I appreciate the game itself more than I did when I was a teenager crushing on Andre. :)

Same thing with me, Kalli. My "tennis watching" in the eighties consisted of cheering for Andre, and cheering for anyone I thought Andre could beat later in the tournament(i.e. NOT Pete Sampras).

Once I got to the 90s, I became a little more diversified. Rafter and Guga were also favorites - unless they were playing Andre. :)

I know we also have posters who began watching before the Open Era. ;)

It's funny, and this is no slight against the thread starter, but the poll made me feel old, even though I typically feel anything but. I guess it suggests that it's assumed that nobody over the age of 45 knows how to use the internet. Maybe not too far from the truth...haha.

Anyway, I started watching tennis in the late 70's. Some good stuff back in the old days.

I first went to Wimbledon in 1997 and loved every minute of it so I started watching tennis and have been to Wimbledon every year since! :D although I only started following it seriously a few years later. :)

Started watching in the late 70 but my addiction to watch everything that involves a tennisball started only in the last decade.
Coverage of other tourny's than GS improved a lot :yeah:
