Me too! Although I started a few days earlier than you . In particular, I decided to watch the Daniilidou-Sharapova match on Day 1 since it was shown on TV primetime (and for patriotic reasons ). Unfortunately, Eleni didn't play well at all and was crushed. ( I had so many expectations after she had beaten JHH at Wimbledon a couple of months earlier.) In any case, after that I became addicted.

I'm sorry she lost.

I had seen a few games or a tiebreak here and there, because the television was constantly turned to the US Open--I was renting a room for a few weeks from tennis fans--and by the final weekend I was hooked, watching full matches on my own initiative even when the owners of the house were gone.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?

I remember watching the Wimbledon finals on TV with my dad since the late 80's. Started following tennis more closely from the mid 90's after we got Eurosport.

I couldn't vote in the poll. I started watching in the 50's, on a tiny black-and-white TV set (waits for gasps of amazement that somebody so old can use the internet)

No gasps... What a privilege to have been able to see so many legends that many of us know of only on paper.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?

Yesterday.

Some people can watch this sport for 50 years and gain very little knowledge on the subject. OTOH, other individuals are capable of grasping it really fast.

Re: In which decade did you start watching tennis?

I started watching tennis in the mid-80's. I was hooked by Martina Navratilova and Chrissy before the arrival of German star Steffi Graf and later on Monica Seles.

Back then, I supported Boris Becker but I was never into Ivan Lendal.

Mid-90's, though I didn't watch every single thing on TV until 2002.
