I started watching in the mid 1950s, but not regularly, partly because I preferred cricket, and partly because the only tournament covered on UK TV was Wimbledon. I remember Jaroslav Drobny from 1954 and Louise Brough from 1955.
Men in long white trousers and ladies in tennis dresses.
Total dominance by Australia in the men's game, Rosewall, Hoad, Laver, Fraser, Cooper, Emerson, Stolle, Newcombe, Roche.
USA winning the majority of ladies titles, but some good performances by Britain, including an all-British final in 1961.
A different world then!
