how many more times are we gonna hear andy say this?

"It's a downer, don't get me wrong,: he said. "But I can still take a lot of positives away from the last four months of the year.

"Going into the summer, I was, 18 in the champions race with people questioning if I would ever play top level tennis again.

"Right now I can choose to look at the negatives going into next year; I can choose to look at the positives. Fortunately, the last half of the year there were a lot more positives than negatives."

So what if Andy enjoys "sucking"!

Not that there`s anything wrong with that!

Now we know why things didn`t work out with Mandy Moore, & Sharapova clearly is not interested in men who bat for the other team><.

Re: how many more times are we gonna hear andy say this?

I have my doubts about how much Roddick has really improved in the latter part of the year. I think hiring Connors gave him some confidence going into the North American hardcourt season, which is probably his favorite stretch of the year anyway. This extra confidence and comfort in his home country made the difference during the summer, but since he's had to go to Europe, his results have been less than stellar. Today, his net play was not working at all, nor was his ground game. He wasn't able to bully Nalbandian with his serve, and this resulted in a rather routine defeat.

Sure, he almost beat Federer, but so did Olivier Rochus in Halle. And so did Takao Suzuki, for that matter. The question is whether he can challenge Federer on a regular basis. And for that matter, can he challenge any of the top players on a regular basis? His record against the top guys this year is still very poor.

I think what happens in Australia in 2007 will really show how far Roddick has come in the past 12 months.

Re: how many more times are we gonna hear andy say this?

Someone posted on another thread, that andy is perhaps still obsessed with getting that elusive win over Roger and that he is developing a gameplan for that more than that for the rest of the tour.

Something he said after this match suggests there may be something to that, although there were other things in that match (including MP).

""I think two nights ago was a little bit more emotionally taxing than tonight," he said. "It's a downer, don't get me wrong, but I can still take a lot of positives away from the last four months.

Roddick choked. Badly. That's it, there's not much to add.

You can't choke if you're never ahead.

Yes you can. He choked before coming to the match, playing poorly and gettin' defeated by the worst player this week.

Re: how many more times are we gonna hear andy say this?

The term "choked" is getting a bit overused. Every time someone loses they're choking. I'm sorry but Roddick was never near being in a winning position today, so there wasn't any choking. He was just beaten fair and square by a player with superior groundstrokes.

That's not the usual definition of choking.

But how can you say that Nalbandian was the worst player this week? He played great in the first set against Federer. And he almost beat Ljubicic. He had a problem maintaining a high level of play in those matches, but he did play well.

Tommy Robredo will likely go 0-3 in the worse of the two groups. I think he's probably more worth of the title 'worst player this week' than Nalbandian.
