Gold Group scenarios

-Blake has won the Gold Group with Nadal's victory over Robredo.

-Tommy Robredo has been eliminated with his loss to Nadal and will finish 4th in the group.

-The winner of the Davydenko-Nadal match will finish 2nd in the group. Even if Blake loses to Robredo, both Blake and the winner of the Davydenko-Nadal match would be 2-1, and Blake would hold the H2H win.

Much simpler than the Red Group. I also wonder how much effort Blake will put into his match against Robredo knowing that he has 1st place clinched and has his semifinal match the next day.

I also wonder about robredo, knowing that he'll leave the tournament whatever result he gets!

Re: Gold Group scenarios

Im sure Blake wants the ranking points, he will move into the top 5 again with a win. Anyway, does he really need to play well to beat Robredo!!

ALLEZ FED!!!

Re: Gold Group scenarios

I alwyas thought they went by sets won and lost rather than H2H, that would make more sense to me.

If 3 players are tied with the same record, they go by sets won. If 2 players are tied with the same record, they go by H2H.

That will be interesting, James not caring about the result and Tommy not caring about the result. There are ranking points with each Robin victory so maybe they are not actually going to tank.

I don't think that Blake will tank, but if he falls behind on Friday like he did today, I can't see him giving it his all to come back knowing that his SF opponent will have had a full day of rest.

Re: Gold Group scenarios

James will also have the advantage of knowing who will be his SF opponent.

James might put in extra effort if it means avoiding playing Federer.

Blake's locked in as #1 in the Gold Group no matter what happens on Friday. So, if Federer ends up being #1 in the Red Group after tomorrow, Blake avoids him. If Federer ends up being #2 in the Red Group after tomorrow, Blake plays him in the SF.

I think we determined yesterday in the Red Group scenarios thread that it's not quite that simple. We never really fully clarified it because the rule is a bit confusing but it starts with sets won and then may go BACK to head-to-head if sets won can eliminate one of the three players.

I guess we might get insight into what will happen next year at RR competition. then again, unlike an IS tourney, a win here is worth $120,000. I'd try for that kind of money

Minor but important difference, it doesn't go by sets won, it goes by PERCENTAGE of sets won, and the same for games. It's not games won, but the % of.
