The "OSIABFS"

Yes, many players on tour this year have experienced OSIABFS. The "Oh Shit! I'm About to Beat Federer Syndrome." Too many times, a player has come so close to beating Federer. Being up a set and a break, having match points, going to a 5th set, 3rd set tiebreaker, or merely having Federer on the ropes at some point. Call it choking, call it shitting of the pants, call it Federer raising his game. Call it what you want, I call it OSIABFS.

The only question is: Can anyone else step up to the plate and find a cure for this horrid syndrome? Currently, only one man has the cure, but he has yet to find the solution to other diseases, such as Tomas or James.

Can anyone find the cure? Or will we be doomed to experience this horrible disease to continue to spread and intensify throughout the tour?

Re: The "OSIABFS"

I think this disease has existed for an awful long time in tennis under various guises, but has only recently become more publicised in its present incarnation through the internet.

BTW, didn't Federer save every one of those matchpoints against Rochus with winners, including two drive volleys, or am I mistaken?

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

No, thats just when the OSIABFS struck, obstructing one's view of actual events and turning all the points into a blur until you're down a break in the next set

That also. Perhaps Rafa can share his super bananas with everyone else on tour

Good One Jonathan. A lot of players were suffering from OSIABRS but Berdych, Ferrero, Youzhny, Blake seem to have found the cure. Unfortunately, Roger had a terrible case of it in Roma, but hopefully, he has been cured. In the late 90s, there was the OSIAB"SAMPRAS"S

OSIABFS!!!!

That's a perquisite of building up a deflating H2H against a player, you win a few extra games, and afflict OSIABFS on them to save MPs!

Re: The "OSIABFS"

I don't see how this is different from OSIATRTPS or "Oh Shit! I'm About To Roast The Pig Syndrome" which was clearly evident this year several times: Rochus in Marseilles, Nieminen in Barcelona, Federer in Rome, Verdasco in Queens and Kendrick at Wimlbedon just to name a few

Re: The "OSIABFS"

Like J'torian said the main problem isn't that many players suffer from it, the thing is that Fed himself caught the disease too. And there is an antidote called "IHNLSIPWNO" - "I Have Nothing to Lose Since I'm Playing the World Number One" - which a lot of top players have naturally in their blood, and make them play better than usually when they're up against Roger. Maybe we could tap some IHNLSIPWNO from Rafa - he has it in abundance - for injections to the other guys.

I don't like hypocrites, but even worse are the ones who think it's OK to be an asshole as long as you are not hypocritical.

Re: The "OSIABFS"

Well maybe he wasn't close to beating Federer but Bjorn Phau caught a little bit of the disease at 5-3 in the first set

Re: The "OSIABFS"

It happens from time to time, but sometimes people just refuse to give Federer credit. In Halle against Rochus, every match point was saved by a winner - that's not a choke.

But yeah, some players do choke it away, but it's not all the time.
