Thiem is slowly becoming the mental monster.

Serve heavy at times but a great TB to finish the match -- Thiem actually had a better average for his 2nd serve speed than Querrey.

P.S. He also seems to have some groupies now in Italy.

Great match. Full respect to Thiem for coming through in the end when it looked like Querrey had found some good returns in the TB. Admiration for Querrey also, didn't expect him to challenge Thiem on clay, and he really was a big part in one of my favourite matches of the clay season so far. Well done both and good luck both for RG (and rest of Rome for Domi)

to be fair its Querrey on clay, your odds are decent of winning points if you just make him play a million balls. Just saying. Thiem was clutch at the end for sure, but Sam hit some bad misses in rallies and likely was fairly tired. I am not confident about Thiem being that clutch at this point. If he plays and beats Nadal tomorrow by being mentally strong in tight moments then that would be a big sign, but against another headcase like Querrey? eh

Querrey was amazing. Never really cared about him, but I would almost be OK with him winning. The movement was incredible. Great match.

Still, nice thing Thiem won. Good match tomorrow.

Very impressed with Thiem's mental improvement. If he keeps that up he'll take over when Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/Murray step down.

Re: Rome R3: ATP Race #3 Thiem def. Querrey 3:6 6:3 7:6 (7) saves 3 MPs

Surprisingly good match. Querrey serving well and striking the ball very cleanly off both wings. Thiem not quite at his best but hardly playing badly. Third set tie break was a roller coaster with some insanely good points. Thiem twice up a mini break only to be pegged back and for Querrey to lead 6-4*

Just an incredibly clutch performance today against a redlining Querrey. Looking forward to Nathiem III. tomorrow
Btw, Thiem saved 11 MPs in his last 6 matches

Entertaining match from both, Thiem´s clutchness saved him in the final, Querry did improved out of nowhere in the TB, Thiem´s sneack attack before the last point was

I'm liking what I'm seeing from Thiem recently. His tennis has really improved, his consistency is getting better and he's quite enjoyable to watch. A bit too much of a ballbasher at times when it isn't necessary but he's getting better at it. Credit to saving match points yet again.
