Re: WWW Rome QF : [4] Nadal vs [8] Thiem

I guess I'll predict Nadal in 2, but if Thiem continues to improve, based on his last two Nadal matches, this could be very very close.

I will mention that Nadal generally seems to vastly prefer the clay courts of Rome over that of Madrid... so it's quite possible he performs better against Dominic than he did last Sunday. At any rate Nadal has to be the favorite here but I don't think anyone would be shocked if Thiem is in there fighting with a chance

For the first time Thiem looks a little bit tired, his style of play requires a lot of running.

Thiem can definitely win this, though it's unlikely. It's more likely he'll just give Nadal a tough match.

Re: WWW Rome QF : [4] Nadal vs [8] Thiem

Nadal will win a bit more easily than in Madrid, I think. Domi hasn't hit his straps yet and the slower surface obviously suits Rafa. The only big improvement I want to see from Domi is for him to get better at punishing short balls, because he let Nadal off the hook way too many times in Madrid.

If Domi wins the match I will strip, paint myself in the colours of the Austrian flag, and streak around my block.

that could prove pretty damaging though, if hypothetically Nadal and Thiem have a longggg match and the winner of Del Potro/Djokovic gets through quickly.... could be a scenario where Nadal (or Thiem) are drained in the semifinal. I expect Nadal to try to come out aggressive tomorrow to prevent this but with Thiem that may not work. Certainly in the Madrid final Nadal sort of had to grind Dominic down

Re: WWW Rome QF : [4] Nadal vs [8] Thiem

Nadal is likely going to win this, but I'm hoping for Thiem to push him for real. Preferably in a all-tiebreak three-setter.

Re: WWW Rome QF : [4] Nadal vs [8] Thiem

Rafa needs to beat him in straights to preserve energy in case he meets Djok again. But I fear he might be pushed to 3. It's true that he traditionally plays better here than in Madrid, but I think Domi also likes slower contitions better, and he's getting closer.

Re: WWW Rome QF : [4] Nadal vs [8] Thiem

I love the fact that Nadal is playing Thiem repeatedly, given that Thiem is probably going to win between 3 and 5 French Open titles perhaps starting in 2020 if Nadal makes way.
Very appropriate that they are playing many times, probably end up playing at least 10 times.
