Irrelevant I know, but...

Had Federer played Paris, could Davydenko have taken him and claimed his first ever win against him?

This is the best I have ever seen Davydenko play.

And by the way....thank God Robredo isn't going to be the world no. 3!!!!

Re: Irrelevant I know, but...

Maybe, but hugely due to Federer being exhausted and overplaying.

But Kolya's recent form against Fed's Madrid form = easy straight sets

Fed's Madrid form was not that good: don t forget he needed 2 tie breaks to beat Soderling.

You cant compare form like that. You are only as good as your opponent makes you look. Davydenko looks great playing against all the players he played against, but none were in the top 5, and the highest ranked player was Robredo who wasnt at his best. Federer on the other hand, has a way of making his opponents look ordinary even if they are great players.

Re: Irrelevant I know, but...

It is hard to say. Gonzalez was on fire in Wimbly '05, having not lost a set coming into the match against Fed while Fed was looking very ordinary coming into his match against Gonzo. Fed still beat him in straight sets.

Need ideas for a new signature...

No, Federer is unbeatable for Davydenko.

But then he went on to hand Nalby and Gonzo a bagel each

For me, Fed's Madrid SF and F (and I've watched it on Tv) is one of the greatest form he's in this year.

Söderling was in fantastic form and he would be a hard opponent for Davydenko on fast surface.

In this match against Federer Söderling didn't have a serious chance of winning.
He was lucky to get away with 6-7 in the 2nd set.
1-6 would've been possible.
Federer controlled the match easily.

Re: Irrelevant I know, but...

Ancic and Robredo are tough opponents for Davydenko and both were playing well so their is no need to put any qualifiers on Davydenko's win. Having said that I don't see him taking an in form Federer on a fast indoor surface.

Re: Irrelevant I know, but...

No one should downplay Davydenko's win, but all these "what if" threads are pointless.

Re: Irrelevant I know, but...

Tennis is a game of matchups. Davy has nothing to hurt Federer with. Basically if Federer plays a decent match Davydenko will probably never beat him.
