BNP Paribas TMS final: N. Davydenko vs. D. Hrbaty

Davydenko leads Hrbaty 3-1 but his only loss came to the Slovak in 2002 on clay.

In their last meeting Davydenko came back from 2 sets to love down to beat Hrbaty at this year's Australian Open.

Who will win this coveted title? Thoughts, opinions and reasons please.

I hope Davydenko in 3, cause I don't think it will be a brilliant match. Tough - maybe, but it's not the same

Re: BNP Paribas TMS final: N. Davydenko vs. D. Hrbaty

To answer the question: I would go for Kolya in 4 sets.

I think technically he is the superior of the two players- Hrbaty's serve can get a little dodgy when he is under pressure due to that exaggerated ball toss. And I think this surface would favour Kolya's game more who can attack and put more 'oompf' on his shots.

In the mental department- Davydenko sometimes does have lapses as was evident today in his match against Robredo. I think such a lapse will occur in either the 2nd or 3rd set causing the match to go to four sets. I do think, however, that Davydenko will ultimately prevail and he has proven himself a strong player in big matches as evidenced by his very potent grand slam results.

It all depends on how many chickens Hrbaty sacrifices tonight.

I haven't looked into the h2h beyond RonE's explanation...but I think Dom has a reasonable shot tbh.

Paris for the last few years have been very unlucky with the withdrawl of so many of the best players.

I hope Davydenko wins it. And I think he will, in straight sets.

I hope so too.. But my money are on Hrbaty.. Kolya had a tougher semis while Hrbaty generally has an incredible stamina. If it goes beoynd three sets, Kolya is cooked.

If Davydenko wins it, I'd say he would be a very worthy contender for #3 ( it would be 5 titles, one of them TMS, 3 Slam qurters, 1 Slam semis and Davis Cup final, a heck of an year ) , which should be between him and Andy.

I can honestly say I'm really looking forward to this match - and I will be happy whoever wins. They ae both nice guys and very underrated players - who work incredibly hard and deserve a TMS trophy. If Davydenko plays as well as he did in the first set against Robredo, and isn't eaten up with nerves, - I think he may just win in 4 tight sets - but good luck to them both

Well I think Kolya's stamina is better than Hrbaty's, isn't it?

He's the one who won their 5-set meeting at the AO. In fact, he's won 3 out of 4 5-set matches this year, losing only to Falla at Wimbledon (and I think that was more due to the surface than stamina).

As for the match-up, Hrbaty might be a bit too predictable for Davydenko. I don't see anything Hrbaty can throw that Kolya can't handle.

Man, I should get a wad of vcash for picking davy to win it before it even started, while the entirety of MTF prdicted Safin/Blake/Gasquet/Berdych winning it, claiming my pick was "stupid". Who's stupid now?
