Is Federer sandbagging?

Federer has dropped a couple of hints that he might possibly skip RG to concentrate on grass.

I believe that Roger is sandbagging with the intention of being in top physical shape for a potential RG encounter with Rafa. Roger gets more satisfaction from beating Nadal than he does from any other accomplishment. Roger has 8 Wimbledon titles but he has never gotten the best of Nadal in Paris.

I don't think Nadal is fooled. He knows that a fresh and rested GOAT is coming for him.

When did Fedtards start to get so out of touch with reality?

Another conspiracy theory?

Let's just wait and see what happens.

I'd love to read an incoherent Pepita conspiracy about this.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

I'm sure Roger gets more satisfaction from winning a major beating Rafa at a slam, but he has more chances at Wimbledon and I don't see him risking that.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

Seems to me he's just going all or nothing on Wimbledon. Seeing as how his previous break helped him win the AO, maybe he thinks another extended break will help him take Wimbledon. Unless Djokovic/Murray get back to their normal levels Fed will be the favorite at Wimbledon, so it's not a bad idea.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

Fed has a good chance at every slam with his newly found stamina. Out of the 4, his lowest chance is at RG, so he is taking a calculated risk in the footsteps of Grassray 2013.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

TBH it's way too long since Roger meets Novak in a slam and I would like to see that in RG instead of him playing Rafa again.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

He wasn't 100% in miami and still won. He must be thinking hey if i could just rest now as he has had tons of match play and break point and being match points down experience for this season.

Plus, he is playing murray on 4/11 and 4/29 so he is still playing here and there for fun.

Does clay help in any way other than just having some match play probably not.. he would be better just to play on grass courts once the french started and be fresh for the part of the season where he has the best chances.

why play on clay as it could only tire him out.

BTW he has 7 Wimbledon titles, I hope this is a foreshadowing not a jinx. Probably a jinx, though.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

He'll tank RG losing in the third / fourth round and will give it all on the grass.

He wants one last a shot at Wimbledon, if he's in form he will be dangerous for everyone. He's guaranteed a top8 seed at Wimbledon, he might get a less brutal draw with some luck. Last year's draw was just perfect, too bad he wasn't 100%.

Probably they meant overall Wimbledon titles.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.

Re: Is Federer sandbagging?

I'm pretty sure that if Federer reaches a point where he's playing Nadal again in the French Open Nadal will have realised that Federer is in fact playing at Roland Garros and is in fact playing well. Unless he's going to deliberately play badly in all of his prior matches to further bamboozle Nadal.

This is what happens when every word someone says is analysed for hidden meanings and motivations - people come up with crazy theories that don't make any sense. You might as well read tea leaves.
