I would not feel sorry for him for this! A number of other players of comparable ability and GS results would have died for that one week. (Chang, Ivanisevic...)

Espescially Villas, probably the best player in the world who never reached No. 1

Re: No. 1s stats

NIce thread. It's amazing to see the win % that Connors was able to produce given the fact that the played many, many matches as an old man and lost.

If he retired at the edn of 1989 let's say (at the age of 37 when he was still a top 15 player) he would've avoided the 42-45 record he put up until he retired. That would put his winning % at an astonishing .840. Then again, if he had retired at 37, he wouldn't have gone on that run in 1991 at the Open.

We would need different matches when it rains at the Open. Before 1991, they used to show JMAC/ Connors 1984 battle a lot and some of Borg/JMAC 1980 action.

Re: No. 1s stats

Re the Weeks #1 stat - there's Consecutive Wks. & Total Weeks. I think Fed has already surpassed Pete's rec. for Consecutive Wks, which I think is ~130. Does anyone know if anyone has more Consecutive Wks. than Fed's 143?
