I thought a year ago that he should win his 700th match soon and then think about retirement. It turns out to be quite difficult, still not there yet. Hope he wins 4 remaigning matches till the end of the season...
Nothing to see here. Vulture is peaking, playing better than ever and on his best surface here, but it's still not enough to win more than 5 games vs a 0% Schwartzmann on his worst surface. Expected.
Damn, i remember when the only people who can beat ferrer were federer and nadal. He was the constant garekeeper. I never like defensive players but ferrer was different. He did not have the height nor the serve and had to work for what he had and had every respect. Only player other than wawrinka i don't mind federer losing to.
these last 12 months or so have been rough for Ferrer. Shadow of his former self, not shocking when he's in his mid 30s and his game relied heavily on out maneuvering opponents and outlasting them (not to say David didn't have solid shots as well).
Time to retire frankly. He's losing to lots of people he should never lose to these days
Watched some highlights of Ferrer missing his FH by miles for no apparent reason. It's a far cry from when he was considered one of the most consistent and dogged players who never gave you any free pts.
This year Ferrer has lost to Thompson (Brisbane R2), Haase (Auckland R2), RBA (AO R3, perhaps his most 'respectable' match), Berlocq (Buenos Aires R2), Dolgopolov (Rio R1) and Schwartzman (Miami R2).
So 3-7 W/L record to date.
Impressive win for Diego still.
Oh dear, David. Your year just gets worse and worse
