Madrid: Wildest Week in MTF 2006?

Rome and Monte-Carlo (and maybe Dubai, but i wasnt here then) might beg to differ, but its been quite crazy.

The first tourney that Fed and Nadal both played since USO, it began with the whole moving to a different floor in the hotel thread. Then we got word that Nalbandian was doing the blog. That turned out to be a disaster, as did his whole week. His henman match where he called him "the worst scum" gathered him some more haters. Then he took down MTF favorite Safin before getting waxed by Federer, a match that many loved the result of.

Of course, Nadal-Berdych was the match of the week, and the controversy that surrounded it was pure law-abiding MTF gold. The threads are all here for those who want to read them. And, as usual, the top 10 disappointed. Ljubo, Roddick, Davydenko, Blake, Robredo, and Baghdatis all lost before the QFs, eliciting the usual "Clown Era" arguments and complaints.

And a TMS week wouldnt be complete without Federer winning on Sunday with a bagel and a breadstick, and Sampras continuing the be defamed.

Great week everyone. Basel/St. Petersburg/Lyon probably wont be as wild, but hopefully the top players play in Paris so we can do it all again

Totally agree. This is a week to savor in years to come, not just on MTF, in the tennis world in general. So eventful, fans n' media going WILD, and ending with the classic touch of Roger winning.

I agree!

And let's not forget the "battle of the sexes" thread about the ballgirls.

the crowd, the ballgirls n' ugly people thread, rafa's mental toughness and the whole "the Nadal era is over" BS, Gonzo's third nipple , whether or not Grillotti shoud be sacked for what he did at the Safin/Nalby match, players inability to CLOSE OUT MATCHES, Fat Dave's "heroic" comebacks and mental strength, erm... I'm sure there's more

Re: Madrid: Wildest Week in MTF 2006?

I thought Rome was more mental to be honest - the opposing Tards were in full flight right the way through the week from start to finish and well beyond. Roger was grumpy all the way through, throwing his racquet and yelling a fair bit, he had close matches in the QF and SF while Rafa strolled through... it was a mental week.

This week has had a wider variety of other things going on, though.

That was the best part, bringing up the hot topic of Ljubo's debated credibility as No. 3
