Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

I can't believe so many ladies on MTF are so jealous of beauty that they don't want the models as ballgirls.

I guess its true ugly people don't like to see pretty people.

Pathetic. Grow up. The models are here to stay.

The ATP deserves a better class of player, and I'm gonna give it to 'em - Djoker

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

I'm a woman who doesn't like that they use models, but its not because they are pretty. I love men, but I can tell when a woman is pretty or not. And it doesn't bother me a bit to see pretty women. I wish I looked like them if even it were a day. And I'm glad that the guys on the tour have some very pretty ladies to hit on for the week.

Two reasons I don't like them as ballwomen though:

One, I think it cheapens the sport. Its too much of a gimmick that has nothing to do with the game. Kind of like a WWF promotion.

Two, ballkids should be kids...when you see how happy the kids are to be near their heros, I think that its a shame that its taken away from them - even if it is for 2 matches a day.

For something like an exhibition, I don't mind it.

For a regular tournament, have the ladies escort the guys on to the court or be cheerleaders or dancers or escort the bigwigs to the seats. Then everyone is happy: the men have hot women to check out while the women they come with are checking out the hot players. But actual on court when the game is being played should be off limits.

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

This has been discussed to death on another thread - but as a woman I certainly have no objection to them as long as they do their job properly, and mostly the Madrid ball girls this year have been excellent. Like NicoFan, I am a straight woman who likes men, but I can certainly tell if another woman is pretty or not and it really doesn't bother me - those girls are beautiful and good luck to them!

Let’s see… hot women handling a lot of balls at a men’s tournament. Good thing there are no sexual implications.

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

I don't have anything against pretty girls (quite the opposite indeed ) but tennis requires concentration, and the players may get distracted by them, or at least I would haha

I also agree with NicoFan #2 reason, they should be kids that practice tennis and can meet their "idols" and learn from them, like it have always been.

My fave players:

- R Federer, D Nalbandian, T Robredo, F Gonzalez, T Berdych, D Tursunov, R Gasquet, M Safin -

I'd like to see the reactions of all the men, as soon as male models would be dressed up in tight flashy shorts and sleeveless shirts and would function as ball boys.

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

What's the problem? Well...... you got a minute???

Apart from the fact that I think the kids should be doing this because they actually know the players and are so happy to be near their idols....... if these girls would do a good job it wouldn't BE such a problem....

some examples:

*player asks for towel : gets a ball
*player asks for ball : gets a towel
*they don't roll the balls, they bring them to eachother
*either 6 of them run to one ball or none
*they give the balls to the wrong side
*the umpire keeps correcting them
etc, etc....

of course on tv you don't see all this...but when you are there.... it's annoying and a bit sad really...

So they can stay, if they do a proper job. And I've seen them for the second year now...still no improvement. So unless they actually know what they are doing I'd say: BRING BACK THE KIDS! The players also look annoyed at times... so how can this be a good thing?!

Wasn't there a WTA tourney where there were male models?

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

This year, the ballmodels did pretty well compare to 2004 and 2005
It seems that this time the selection was compensing beauty and tennis knowledge

A post that deserves to be on MTF Hall of Fame soon:

Exactly! You can't see their constant mistakes on TV, maybe this year there are orders not to do so. But go to ANY match in the arena and you'll see their mistakes. At least the kids are interested in tennis and won't say that 2 hours per day is hard work.

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

honey, that excuse is old. it's not about jealousy. models are actually not all that. supermodels are. hell, even if hunky men were supposed to be the ball "kids" i wouldn't be happy.

reasons have been stated. too much of a gimmick. and they dont really know what they're doing.

two things we should never have:

Obese kids as ballboys. They always suck.
Model women as ballgirls. They usually suck.

wat.

Re: Models as ball girls...Whats the problem?

Was I the only one to notice Rafa's annoyance with one of those 'ballmodels' (not going in discussion about which balls we're talking about here) in Friday's match?

Look on his face was saying all: "Pfew, cow can't even catch a ball and if she tries she drops it again..."

Conclusion: if they manage to do their job RIGHT, okay... perhaps...
Alas, they do not.
