Tati Rascon: showing Navarro Pastor how to be a Spanish serve/volleyer

Tati Rascon who should have got a wildcard to the main draw and at age 35 and a Spanish serve volleyer comes out and defeats Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo who is having his best year in 3 sets. That is so funny and hope he makes the main draw.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Anybody remembers the stir RRH caused when he defeated Blake?

This might be the beginning of a new era of Spanish serve-volleyers.

Nice work Tati!

I thought he looked quite old...but how is Jim Thomas younger than him?!!

Serve-volley works quite well in those conditions I think

Re: 35 year old Tati Rascon def Ramirez Hidalgo in Madrid qualies

Rascon is semi retired and only plays some small events in Madrid, but he won his place in the qualies and he will play Navarro Pastor for a place in the main draw.

There will be some net rushing in this match.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

If Rascon makes the main draw, they will need to play at Bernabeu Stadium to fit in all the people that want to see him.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Hmmmm....pretty much 50/50 match there. I saw Navarro at Nottingham and was impressed by his game...but not heard a peep out of him until now

Wrong. Madrid is really slow. RRH is a claycourter and they always have problems with S&V, with very few exceptions.

Re: 35 year old Tati Rascon def Ramirez Hidalgo 6-4 3-6 6-4 in Madrid qualies

Rascon can now add Ramirez Hidalgo to the list below.

Not a bad list of people he has beaten.

Camporese
Portas
Clavet
Mantilla
Martin A
Agenor
Bhupathi
Sluiter
Pavel (twice)
Pozzi (twice)
Vicente
Almagro (twice)
Garcia-Lopez
Verdasco
Vinciguerra
Mayer

In the 2004 Madrid qualies he defeated

Acasuso 6-3 6-7(3) 6-3
Volandri 6-7(4) 6-3 6-4

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Did he make it into the main draw last year? His name seems familiar. EDIT: no he did not. Could have sworn I have seem him on TV somewhere.
