Look, Domi was terrible. He was getting dominated in the rallies, Lajovic controlled the centre of the court completely with some aggressive play. At the moment Domi's style of play is utterly unworkable. He's trying to be aggressive, but he has to wait for the ball to drop so he's always running backwards and feeding the opponent high-bouncing, attackable balls. But if he falls back on defense, his backhand breaks down under no pressure at all. This kind of thing only works for Nadal because Nadal in his prime never missed and you literally had to blast him off the court.
Thiem lacks confidence at the moment. The same thing happened to Dimitrov in 2015 when he couldn't decide what kind of player he wanted to be. Thiem's groundstrokes pack an enormous punch. Imagine what he could do if he leaned into his shots instead of backpedaling away from them. So much easier said than done at this level of course. I don't think that he'll turn out to be another Almagro. He's got the temperament and weapons of a top-10 player.
