Gets a late WC and is seeded No.1. At a Challenger. In Italy. Loses to a career-high No.311 25 yo German journeyman.
For all that is sacred and @Mateya 's sake, I hope he had a minor injury or something.

should be the lad who played college tennis in the States and if it is the same - he's always had top 100 pro written all over, if not better.

Friendly reminder that this result is due to Seppi playing Dubai qualis on Saturday.

Wait, what? ... Challengers pay appearance fees!?!? Why? I mean to what end? How much can tickets to a Challenger match possibly cost, to make it worth to pay to get a name and bring in audiences.

And if it's so obvious that a top player will just tank, how stupid and naive are the people paying them these fees?

Seppi in Northern Italy should bring some 3K additional tickets per match, compared to him not being there.

3K tickets x 30 Eur x 4 matches = 360 000 Eur.

They wouldn't give him more than 30 to 50K appearance and it's well worth it for the organizers. Also if he drops early, considering that a lot of the tickets should be sold in advance.

Even divided by 5 it's still worth it.

it's simple math, could be wrong on the exact number of spectators, or the price of the tickets, maybe it's even a free entrance, then it's related with more sponsors, or a clause with sponsors who would pay if there is such and such player participating.

Now i can understand some teens think they know business and wouldn't hire me, the irony being that i'm the one who hires and i'm lmao at dilettantes' like this resumes every other month... lol

couldn't find prices of tickets, but what i found is that there were 1500 spectators for Seppi's match...against the qualifier #300smth

As i said - even at 5 times less it still makes sense for the organizers to pay a fee to attract a well known, Norther Italy born, popular tennis player.

edit - a women volley match in the same hall costs between 16 and 25 Eur per ticket. Such matches happen every other week-end. How much would an annual tennis tournament ticket cost?

:spit:

Sexpi must have had some much better things to do.

Rome has nothing to do, it has place for thousands of people.

As i said - tickets for women volley range from 16 to 25 Eur, how much do you think a ticket for the annual tennis tourney cost?

Their best attendances have been always when Seppi plays. They're proud of a 3K spectators for 2011 final and mention a record attendance at the 2008 final, both with Seppi.

They're also proud of their 25K spectators total in 2011.

Ofc there's no precise info about anything and this is from articles in this year's tourney brochure.

Bottom line, they'd expect around 3K spectators per match with Seppi, vs allegedly less than 1K without.

Say the ticket is 20 Eur, as the average ppl pay twice a month for volleyball.

This simple calculation makes a difference of 160 000 Eur. It's 2.25 times less than the first example, which concludes - even at 5 times less it still makes sense.

What is even simpler - for someone to throw a one liner without thinking for one second.

What a discussion :haha: Hanfmann's 5 minutes of glory.

Some people are overrating challengers around here. They have free entrance or very cheap tickets with 10 to 50 people watching. 30€ x 3000 people x4 :spit: :stupid: Yes, in Rome maybe.

I will call and ask Seppi about this. 0:)

ask him if it's true what the official site says that he played terrible in front of 1500 fans. His first round against the qualifier dude.

and ask him if it is true that he's played many matches in front of 3000+ people.

Seppi lives at driving distance from Bergamo, so it wasn't a hassle no matter what the arrangement was.

Jaaaaysus, when I started this, I expected it to be a little harmless flirting with Mateya, and going largely under the radar. Then it quickly turned ugly, I learnt that I haven't got a clue abt. US college tennis (which, tbh, seeing what a joke US PRO tennis is, is hardly something I'd like to learn more about). Then, I seem to have been saved by the discussion turning towards Uncle Latso's business planning acumen, or lack thereof.

I have the following for you all:

For those of you under 35 and/or not coming from ex-USSR and Eastern Europe, this is the Soviet counterpart of Tom and Jerry (although a much better one), Cat Leopold. In these series, the Cat was the good guy and the mice - the bad ones. So, each episode, ended with this catchphrase (here in Russian), which is (loosely) translated to: "Guys, let's all get along!"

No let´s not.
I wonder whats the reason for creating new threads when you dont even know one of the players involved in the match.
If the tone of the post was something along the lines "How does Seppi lost to that ranked 300 player guy?, " at least it would be a little honest by confessing your ignorance towards a player.

But first you used a facepalm emoticon and then called Hanffman "Loses to a career-high No.311 25 yo German journeyman. "Without even knowing that Hanffman never played more than 100 matches on his career.

Then shows prejudice against College US Tennis Player, the same system that gave not only decent american prospects like Bradley Klahn, John Isner, and Steve Johnshon but also players that dominated the Challenger Tour in the past 10 years, like Somdev Devvarman, Blaz Rola, etc. . So this does' t even involve only US tennis, but tennis as a whole .

Get along with tennis as a whole, and then we´ll get along just fine.
