I just came home after having watched Joachim Johansson beating Mr. Nadal in a very good match at Stockholm Open (yes I enjoyed it
After this match, I realized something. When Johansson plays its kinda always like he is playing against himself. He serves aces constantly, he pounds winner after winner or error after error with extremely small margins and the opponent never really gets to play.
Today it was like that (and the winners were hit more frequent than the errors = he won).
Another even better example of this, was his fourth round encounter with Agassi at the 2005 Australian open. A match which I also had the opportunity to enjoy live. Agassi won it, quite comfortably in four sets, but the stats tells the story.
Johansson winners: 96, UEs: 66 (51 aces)
Agassi winners 35, UEs: 13
Agassi didn’t really need to do much, he just saw Johansson killing everything until the game was over.
It seems like that Johansson plays like this everytime. Plays against himself. In this way he can beat Nadal or anyone for that matter. In the same time he can lose to anyone (probably to Vliegen in the next round at SO).
Hmm, just a thought (and my first post with more than two sentences)
