Korolev def. Istomin 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3

In a battle of young talents, Russian Evgeny Korolev defeated Uzbekistan's top ranked player, Denis Istomin 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 6-3. Korolev next faces Philipp Kohlschreiber in the 2nd round of the Kremlin Cup.

This should have been an interesting match to watch. I saw Korolev this year for the fist time in Marseille, in his QF match against Grosjean. He lost but i was impressed by his game, as well as in his 2nd round match vs. Gaudio in the French Open where he pushed the '04 champ. to the limit and finally lost in 5 close sets.

Good luck to him

I said why immediately after: "I saw Korolev this year for the fist time in Marseille, in his QF match against Grosjean. Also because they are both young talented players with a promising future in tennis. It was a close match and judging from the score, it was very emotive too.

Korolev missed an easy forehand at mp 76 *54 and then got broken with a double fault on bp. He was clearly the better player and should have won in two sets, but at least he won.

Korolev should have won in straight sets, but the victory is what matters, he has now very good chances of securing direct entry in the Australian Open.

It may seem surprising but there exist people who are interested in players other than at the very top of the game:retard:
