Stakhovsky deserved to win. He's the smarter player, a real talent. His dropshots for example are great. He also has no real weakness in his game.
What surprises me is that he lost to Rusedski in the DC.
Sergiy is a wonderful player to watch. He hits about the flashiest touch shots in men's tennis. He's got unbelievable flair. But he still has alot to learn about what shot to hit when. His game is also not really at all suited to clay either hence the davis cup loss wasnt a big surprise for me. A game with all the subtlety, variety and flair of Stakhovsky's inevitably takes longer to develop than that of a claycourt bassliner who simply learns how to hit good topspin shots and run like hell; or for that matter a hardcourt basher who simply has a good serve and a big forehand.
But I am really looking forward to watching Sergiy's game develop over the next 3 or 4 years.
