Didn't know JesusEbden was a thing but well, apparently he is.

Might be match of the year. Fritz was very good, was ballbashing like peak Rosol yet somehow Ebden kept turning rallies around and hit some crazy winners of his own.

He's a crafty all-court player with good net skills and an outstanding BH. Slam contender in 2 or 3 years.

Saw 70% of the match, thought it was good but not THAT good as some are making it out to be, I liked Young-Mannarino better( good drama and rallies throughout the match). Ebden's comeback seems to be pretty successful. Fritz's netgame and loose errors let him down here.

Re: Memphis R2 Ebden d. Fritz 6-4 4-6 6-3

Great stuff by Ebden and I am very happy for him. Last year he was out for 6 months because of injury. First ATP QF since Atlanta 2012 and his 5th overall. The 8th game of the third was very crucial for Ebden and fritz came up with amazing shots but at the end the Aussie won it and broke again for the match.

Fritz was lucky to be in this round anyway since Lu had the match on his racquet but he got away with that. He's still 19 still a lot to come for him.

Re: Memphis R2 Ebden d. Fritz 6-4 4-6 6-3

Ebden surprised everyone I think. Quite a strong match, heavy hitting and defense, with some great touch and dropshots.

Fritz did well to snatch the second with blistering BHs and crushing FHs but Ebden was too solid.
Fritz, like the other Next Gen players must work on their approach and net game. That was one aspect that Ebden exploited very successfully.

Huh? I watched that too and it was like pretty alright, but not fantastic/Mannarino choked horribly on every big point as always.

Maybe the quality was better here but the drama of that match made it a lot more exciting to me (Mannarino also saved an MP at 3-5 with great defense, match looked over during that point)and the fact that both guys missed a lot of returns in this match dampened it a bit to me. Sometimes it really doesn't take much for one to like or dislike a match, everyone has their own say.

Fritz played really well at the end of the 2nd set, didn't bring any of that into 3rd set unfortunately.

Fritz is just another north american servebot.

USA's players over 1m90 should just be banned from the sport.

Got a very good chance of making an ATP SF out of no-where here. Hell he could probably win the thing, Johnson/Isner aren't unbeatable.

I don't think this is the thread to criticize Fritz, I didn't like the match that much but Ebden did play like a top 30-50 player at least. This tournament is one of the best Fritz's played on MD, none of his opponents before the final last year were playing this well.
