Seems to me a good serve+forehand combo make players very consistent and allows them to routine inferior players. Look at Raonic. Compare him to Karlovic most of his career or to Ljubicic for instance, who had a killer serve, but very shitty forehand. 2nd serve far better than Raonic's but lost early in Slams a million times. I love comparing Ljubo and Raonic to point out the importance of the forehand for consistency, especially the big guys who rely on attacking tennis. Another good comparison could be Cilic and Berdych. Berd man with a lot more consistent forehand.
In general steady performances outweigh peak runs (top 2 players speak for themselves). Wawrinka is fortunate his peak runs always come at slams which have such a heavy weighting. Ivo is pretty bad at slams but he does make R32 quite a lot if he gets through some crappy affairs (like beating Lu, Thompson and Zeballos in marathons). But his masters record is arguably worse! Lots of R1 and R2 exits, hardly any QF appearances in recent times.

Re: Karlovic: "Players don't really like to practise with me."

If Ivo insists on bombing down serves and doing only "practice match" type practices, then it's his own fault. I've watched dozens of practice sessions at Rogers Cup. Often players just start a rally by floating a serve in -- or even underhand-serving. Many practices are more like a series of drills, not like practice matches with points. I doubt his predicament is so much about serve, it's probably the other factors. He doesn't need a partner to practice serves, he can just do that on his own with his coach watching the lines to tell him if he's in or not.

Kei would be glad to practise with him so Chang doesn't have to do this anymore.

I'm sure we could reach a compromise so that everyone can enjoy playing Ivo:

Re: Karlovic: "Players don't really like to practise with me."

Utmost respect for Ivo, starting from how he worked his way into tennis elite and ending with how he has a humorous view about any kind of situation.

This shit is tough for him, man had a freaking stroke, players don't wanna practice with him(and its not like you can blame them either, everyone understands the reasoning), tons of people don't take him seriously narrowing him down to nothing else than a servebot and no amount of titles/big wins would change it much. And the dude is just plowing through and has a hilarious twitter account.

I also recall a video with him lifting weights at the gym with some hardcore rap/hip-hop stuff playing on the background and him rapping along, it was freaking poetic. Now I can't find it for some reason though, if anyone knows where its at I'd appreciate it

For me, Karlovic will be remembered for saying "I fuck your mom" to a detractor on Twitter.

He should be proud of that TBH. He's got a devastating style of play. Everyone's scared of facing him

Well, with Opelka coming on to the tour reason to train for it could soon increase

It's a different kind of serve, Isner serve is more power oriented, while Karlovic can use power and accuracy.

You prerare better for Isner by practicing with Steve Johnson or Sam Querrey imho.

I'm pretty sure Karlovic doesn't serve at 100% in practice sessions, otherwise Popovic wouldn't even put the ball in play either. There is individual serving practice also for serving, so no need of serving like a real match in practice. The reason people don't like to practice with him it's not his serve, but his inability to mantain the ball in play I'd say.

Re: Karlovic: "Players don't really like to practise with me."

Karlovic is an amazing player. The huge serve and zero rhythm for the opponent; it's really something special to watch. Fair play to the other players for not wanting to practice with him. These guys just want to rally balls for an hour. They are better off practising with a wall.

Re: Karlovic: "Players don't really like to practise with me."

well following his twitter account , seeing the thread title , I expected the reason to be " too much 'your mom' jokes "

turned out to be a reason connected to the game though , but I don't think it's sad for Karlovic at all , it's logical and I think he accepts it .

Re: Karlovic: "Players don't really like to practise with me."

Karlovic is more uncompromising to play than Isner for instance due to his backhand slice, nobody would have liked to deal with it on the slick AO court 19.

Also his forehand can really be hit or miss at times which is hard to deal with when everything goes in.
