Lleyton Hewitt has won never won a claycourt title.

All 25 of his titles are on grass, hard or indoors. I only just realized this when comparing the career records of Hewitt and Kuerten for the other thread. I don't think he has even reached a clay final. People talk about Hewitt's versatility, but for example Sampras is known a being bad on clay despite winning a TMS on the surface as well as a couple of dinky events in the US. Hewitt's clay record is actually worse than Sampras's.

I think he won Delray Beach when it was played on clay

And Becker never won a clay title either

Re: Lleyton Hewitt has won never won a claycourt title.

He's actually a pretty good claycourter as hes made a QF appearance at RG, and pushed Nadal. But he doesn't like the dirt, and doesn't like to commit to any of the events, apart from RG.

Yes, Delray Beach was clay that year but is it green or red clay?

Becker made 3 Monte Carlo finals, 1 final in Hamburg and 1 final in Rome.

Also made semis in RG three times.

Are you sure? What year did they switch from clay to hard? I think Coral Springs was the old venue which was clay.

Delray Beach TC has both green clay and hardcourts, i've played at that site.

Re: Lleyton Hewitt has won never won a claycourt title.

yes, delray beach was played on green clay at that time, so he actually has one title.

apart from that, of course lleyton is no clay specialist and it's probably his weakest surface, but he's not a claycourt clown. i'm sure he would have a few more titles if he simply played more clay tournaments. two RG quarterfinals and several clay TMS semis don't lie.

Go to Hewitt's profile in ATPtennis site, check his activity in 1999 for singles and you'll see it's clay for Delray Beach that year.

So it's green clay, not red clay?

Green clay is quite a different surface than red clay, right?

Yeah. Green clay is easier to move on for hardcourt players.

There almost no red clay courts in the US. A few places have colored their green clay red, but it is still the green clay surface, not European or South American clay.

What exactly is it about green clay that makes it easier to move on? (I have played on green clay but not on red).

Re: Lleyton Hewitt has won never won a claycourt title.

Only Houston has actual red clay and that's the only clay court event in the USA played on the ATP tour. As for the women, any clay event in the States is played on green clay. Easier to move on, and MUCH quicker than red clay. You can easily play a hardcourt game and dominate on it.
