Will we ever see a Federer-Murray match on clay?

Federer and Murray played against each other for the first time in 2005. 12 years and 25 matches later, they still have not played on clay.

Do you guys think we'll ever get to see this match-up happen on clay? Federer is probably approaching the end of his career and I don't think he'll play too many clay tournaments this year so I honsetly don't think we'll ever see it happen.

Goffin - Nishikori - Dimitrov - Schwartzman

The probability is higher this year than in previous years, because Federer will still be out of the top 4 during the clay season, so he can meet Murray already in the QFs of the clay tournaments.

Murray will get his head handed to him on a plate made from his ass if he meets current Federer on clay .

Re: Will we ever see a Federer-Murray match on clay?

This could be the year......

During their careers they have had different clay success paths with Andy only becoming a threat on clay the past couple years...

Would be an interesting MC or Rome match up

It's too late for it to even be remotely interesting.

As for whether it will finally happen: I have no idea. Still, would be nice to just see it just to have it on record.

No, Federer will tank to preserve the H2H against Clayray.

Feel that this would be a difficult matchup if it ever happens. Clayray is improved.

Re: Will we ever see a Federer-Murray match on clay?

From 08-13 when both were in the top 4 for most part Federer was the much better player on clay, but since then things changed in the opposite directions. Murray probably wins it comfortably at this point on this surface

Murray isn't even that good on clay. Christ, Federer was only second on clay to Nadal in his prime. Unlike you guys, I'm pretty sure Murray would lose easily

It's been 11 years since Federer's prime. On the other hand, Murray is in his clay prime now.

Oh I know Murray seems really impressive on clay. Real impressive.

Re: Will we ever see a Federer-Murray match on clay?

This matchup would be interesting in Madrid, with the extra speed.

I feel that Murray would outgrind Fed in Monte Carlo, Rome or RG at this point in their careers.

Supporting
Roger Federer - Juan Martin del Potro - Grigor Dimitrov - Vasek Pospisil - Dominic Thiem - Nick Kyrgios

Re: Will we ever see a Federer-Murray match on clay?

This match-up is now very unlikely to happen. With the way things are going so far in 2017 this can only mean that there's no way around it.

Btw, "Clayray" is ridiculously overrated. Don't forget how he almost lost to ancient Stepanek at RG who was leading 2-1 sets before Murray's superior stamina got the better off him. And the very next round he almost stumbled vs. qualifier Bourgue. So don't tell me that even 35 yo Fed would be entirely without a chance.

No you are right, although Murray would be favorite now on clay Fed would definitely be in with a shot. but Murray would also be extra focused now should they meet. Note how after those early struggles at the FO last year he kicked through the gears to play very well against Gasquet and Wawrinka to make the final when he knew he had to be much better against a step up in class.
