If you're anyone but Fed, you'll play in more than 16 tournaments a year. Basel just fills in one more tournament for your year round calender. And if you think playing 3 straight weeks is bad, look at Davydenko. I think he plays around twice as many tournaments as Fed does a year, in the lower 30s.

Basel is a very important tournament for Federer. It's his home one and he's never won it. He's never won Madrid or Paris either. I agree with you that playing for 3 straight weeks is a very demanding prospect, and it may well be if he does as well as everyone would expect in Madrid and Basel that he pulls out of Paris.

Of the other top seeds, Nalbandian should be there he has a good record in that tournament. And other names like Gonzalez, Baghdatis should be there too.

will certainly be interesting to see what happens with these 3 weeks....

1-my own guess is that he will skip Madrid.

2-if not, he plays and gets to at least the semis or more in madrid, plays basel then WD paris.

3-he plays madrid semis or better, plays basel but loses early (unlikely id think) then feels he can go play Paris.

he has played all 3 before, so its possible.

Doesn't need Nadal, Nalbandian can do the job in Basel.

My guess is that Rafa will play Basel if he loses early in Madrid. Federer will play Basel unless he's injured, but will not play Paris if he goes deep in both Madrid and Basel. Then again, Federer might skip all 3 of them

Too bad for Nikolay though!!!

I think if you are not Fed you'd better curle up and die
