Cahill Agassi vs Gilbert Agassi

Cahill Agassi vs Gilbert Agassi. Which style of player do you prefer?

I'm not asking which player is better since it wouldn't be quite fair as Agassi's overall quickness reduced slightly during the Cahill years. But in terms of tactics and playing style there is a difference.

Gilbert Agassi stayed on and inside the baseline as much as possible. And he took full swings at most returns.

Cahill Agassi was on and around the baseline but also played behind the baseline. And he blocked back returns at times, though still took full swings frequently.

They are very similar players, but overall Gilbert Agassi was more of a cowboy in terms of taking the attack to his opponent (though ironically Cahill Agassi came to the net slightly more). But in terms of taking the ball on the rise Gilbert Agassi was the king of that.

The way I see it, Gilbert Agassi had a greater chance of winning a Grand Slam than Cahill Agassi, not because of being younger but just the mere fact that if both Cahill Agassi and Gilbert Agassi are in 100% ball-striking form I would say the Gilbert version could win 7 straight Grand Slam matches, while the Cahill version might get to the semis or final but lack the knockout blow to put away the Safin or Federer due to playing more defensively and behind the basleline at crucial times.

The Cahill Agassi might bring more consistent results due to his decision to play higher percentage tennis when his timing is off. But the Gilbert Agassi has the better a-game when his timing is on.

Which do you prefer?

Retired Agassi.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Cahill Agassi vs Gilbert Agassi

This is obviously taking into account Gilbert Agassi and Cahill Agassi when uninjured and unretired. The comparison is tacticool rather than chronologicool.

Re: Cahill Agassi vs Gilbert Agassi

I doubt that Cahill did anything to improve Andre^s game or attitude. Gilbert took Agassi from down and out to the top of the game. He got Andre fit and instilled the desire to do what it takes to be a top player again. Whatever flaws Brad may have as a person or player, one cannot deny the fact that he did a great job with Andre.

Re: Cahill Agassi vs Gilbert Agassi

If Cahill was Agassi's coach for every year of Agassi's career then Agassi would only have won 4 slams instead of 8.
