Who Is Greater - Nadal or Djokovic?

Federer is obviously considered the GOAT by most but who will go down as greater between Rafa and Novak?

For me, it's easy. Novak.

Novak is a far better all round player and has not been reliant on one slam to prop up his slam numbers or one surface to dominate on. He held all slams at one time and and also has the most masters ever I believe.

The level he was playing at winning 4 slams in a row was genuinely making me think 'is he as good as peak federer' as it was truly incredible. Rafa has more slams, although I think Novak will end up winning more or it will finish level. He also had so many weeks at number one, he has won the year ends so many times whereas Rafa has never won there.

Regardless of Slam count though I think Novak is greater. Rafa is clay GOAT but overall I think Novak is the better player. I don't think prime Rafa beats prime Novak on any surface other than clay.

I'd give peak Rafa the advantage on Clay and grass. Nole the advantage in AO and USO.

Djokovic is a far better player on every surface bar clay - that's why he has a superior record in every Slam bar RG.

They're almost equal in achievements so far - maybe slight advantage Dull - but Djole will probably be greater anyway at the end of it all.

Re: Who Is Greater - Nadal or Djokovic?

I would have said Novak back when he won RG. Following his disastrous (by his standards) year since then, im not sure, pretty equal right now I'd say, there's much more to come from these two I'm sure!

ROGER FEDERER 04, 06, 07, 10, 17, 09, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 09, 12, 17, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08

RAFAEL NADAL: 09, 05, 06, 07, 08, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 08, 10, 10, 13

NOVAK DJOKOVIC: 08, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 16, 11, 14, 15, 11, 15

Also, Rafa was 3 games away from being the only player in the open era to win 4 different slams at least 2 times. It's not like he only depends on the French Open to win slams.

Re: Who Is Greater - Nadal or Djokovic?

That's a tough one, but I think for now you still have to go with Nadal. However it's very possible Djoker will surpass Nadal in slams and if he does that or even ties him, then he may be considered greater having more consistent results on more surfaces bar clay.

Re: Who Is Greater - Nadal or Djokovic?

Strictly speaking it's Djokovic considering was able to raise his game to some pretty insane level to battle past Federer and Nadal to achieve what he has achieved. However because he's so unlikable he will most likely lose this poll.

The BIGGEST (borderline delusional) fan of players on General Message Board according to Forehander:
Grigor Dimitrov: FedererBulgaria
Borna Coric: Crowdmaker
Nick Krygios: Dan.
Tommy Haas: Leng Jai
Sebastien Grosjean: Myself
Novak Djokovic: Chiico (Leader of the No1e Cult)

He was 6 points away in 2012 on his serve!

Long way to go before deciding who is better. Nadal is back, but the Djoker is lost big time. At their best Djokovic is the better player. If they finish level on majors then Djokovic will be seen as the better player due to dominating the tour for longer.

How is djokovic better at their best? From 2012-14 (djokovic's peak/prime period) RAFA won all their slam matches (4-0) and even breadsticked djokovic in the USO final in dominating fashion.

Re: Who Is Greater - Nadal or Djokovic?

It's an interesting one. Novak plays better for longer periods. He has more weeks at #1 and is the only guy to get remotely close to Federer's Grand Slam finals streaks. He had a ridiculous 2011 when he blew away Nadal, and had the upper hand against a still very good Federer. Since then, he's been good but not great, except for once-in-a-blue-moon matches where he just blows opponents off the court (see early 2016). He also has (had?) a tendency to peak for the biggest matches.

Nadal has only ever consistently dominated on clay, but in 2010 and 2013, he showed that his peak eclipsed Novak's average level of play. His Grand Slam numbers are inflated somewhat by his clay dominance (during the period when Federer was far and away the second best on the surface) and his superior physicality over five sets.

Overall, Novak clearly has the edge thanks to his consistency. I'd love to see 2013 Rafa up against 2011 Novak, but I have a suspicion Novak would take that too.
