James Blake def Marat Safin 3-6 6-4 7-6(3)

Too much drama, Marat

Had BP in the second set to break first but got broken instead and one more to break when Blake was serving for the set but didn't take it either. Led by a break in the third and then went 0-40 down in the next game and got broken back. Got broken at 5-5, played 4 superb points to take it to a TB and then goes 0-4 down.

I have to say Marat lost this match. Blake didn't win it.

What's most shocking to me is how awfully Marat played to go 0-4 down in the TB after he played so wonderfully in the previous game to break back.

Re: James Blake def Marat Safin 3-6 6-4 7-6(3)

A match decided by 1 game.

Safin failed to break at 2-1 in second set when he had a break point. He was never the same after that point.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Both very talented but also very mentally fragile it was bound to swing one way then the other.

It was 'bounder' to swing in James direction. All of us Safin fans knew it.
