He will be, and it honestly won't be too long till he's top 10. I don't think those who have seen him will argue with me on that one - it's just a matter of time.

Agreed! I fully expect him to be the youngest player in the Top 100 before the year ends.

Yes, he is better than Nalbandian and Coria were at his age. But that doesn't mean he will be better than them.

I hope so, but only time will tell.

Re: Del Potro might be top 100 tomorrow

Nalbandian started to play in a good shape and became top 100 at the age of 19.
Coria with more than 18,5 years became top 100 after winning 4 consecutive challengers (Lima, San Pablo, Montevideo, Buenos Aires).

So yes, Del Potro is better than Nalbandian and Coria at his age, but nowadays players become pro earlier than before, so that might be another factor.
Del Potro become 18 years old 3 days ago, so yes, he has a lot of future

Re: Del Potro might be top 100 tomorrow

JMDP wasn't playing in so many youth tournies like the guys were, actually. his biggest success was winning Orange Bowl U-14 and soon he played already with 18 y.o. Him and Donald Young were most promisious guys back then. He made quaters at Roland Garros last year, lost to Murray. He started making ATP points in 2004 already and he used to be defeated by Thiago Alves (an interesting Brazilian player, coming up after an injury straight from... the last ATP place) and Alves said then JMDP was going to be incredibly good.

I just hope he's responsible enough to focus on tennis and will be injury-free. These two things look like the most dangerous for players in Argentina.

He should do - but he is still young, and the "excitement" of beating Moya coupled with the fact that a win would put him into the Top 100 could cause him a few problems. Hope he can do it though.
