So as you can see the average age has gone up steadily every year in the past 10 years. The last few years there has been an increase in the very youngest players but also an increase in the very oldest. That means the middle 26-30 is lacking recently
Who are the 10 players over 35? Below are the names and ages that I can come up with off the top of my head. Who was the last player older than Haas to play in the Australian Open?
Tommy Haas - 38
Radek Stepanek (Q) - 38
Ivo Karlovic - 37
Stephane Robert -36
Víctor Estrella Burgos - 36
Nicolas Mahut - 35
Paolo Lorenzi - 35
Jurgen Melzer - 35
Roger Federer - 35
Feliciano Lopez - 35
What is even more interesting is average age nation by nation
AUS 11 players 22.3
USA 14 22.4
GBR 4 26
RUS 7 26.2
JAP 3 26.7
ARG 7 27.2
SRB 3 28.3
FRA 13 28.5
TCH 4 28.5
CRO 4 29.3
ITA 5 30.8
SPA 10 30.9
SWI 2 33
GER 6 35
Only 2 nations have very young teams (AUS partly because of wc) when the last 4 seem to have a lot of problems in renewing their elite players
Under 21 By Country
USA - 5
Australia - 3 (2 Are Wild Cards)
Russia - 3
Germany - 1
Croatia - 1
Korea - 1
Kazakhstan - 1 (Bublik now representing Kazakhstan)
