Younes El Aynaoui vs. Martin Verkerk, who ya got?

Yeah! This matchup is actually happening at the Tarragona challenger in Spain!

http://stevegtennis.com/results/2006/ch-tarragona.txt

As I like both players, and I want both of them to come back to the top 100, I don't really care who wins. I am just happy that both of them are able to play again. For Verkerk, currently ranked 2017(!), this will be only his second match since July 19th, 2004, when he won a first round challenger match. Inljuries and illness have plagued him ever since.

Good luck to both and stay healthy!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

Re: Younes El Aynaoui vs. Martin Verkerk, who ya got?

I thought the rankings ended somewhere around 1500, obviously I was wrong. Still as you say, best of luck to both men. Whoever would have thought the two colourful big hitters of 2003 would have been reduced to this three years on.... of course both were fairly late bloomers, so hopefully there's life in them yet.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

I love them both. I wish the ATP would give them loads of WCs into bigger tournaments.

Well, the there are usually a ton of players tied with one point in the ~1500 range. However, the first tiebreaker among players tied on rankings points is number of tournaments in which a player gained points. Obviously all these guys only have one tournament....except for Verkerk, who has a bunch of 0's from TMS and GS that haven't fallen off yet.

Younes!

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

well Younes has been playing on a partial basis and is ranked within the top 200. Verkerk has hardly played in 2 years so Younes is hands down the favourite to win.

Life is empty and meaningless. It is in emptiness that we create possibilities for extraordinary results

And Younes only lost to the winner of the tournament Olivier Rochus in a tight match: 6-7 6-4 6-3. I think Younes will destroy Verkerk.
But I wish them both good luck for the coming events.

Re: Younes El Aynaoui vs. Martin Verkerk, who ya got?

Good to see Martin back and as for Younes all the best.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
